"Often imitated, but never duplicated. South Union is the original ciabatta bread sandwich shop. I have been coming here for years and you can always count on the quality of the sandwich. I usually visit here about once or twice a month, but for about a year my office was just a couple of blocks away, so I was visiting once or twice a week. I slowly made my way through most of the menu, but hands down my favorite is still Sarah's revenge. This place gets busy quick, so you want to go before noon if you can. Even though dining area is spacious it fills up quickly."

"The Coup de gras after I ran the Des Moines Marathon: I went down to see Dirt Burger in downtown Des Moines. What I got was the best veggie burger no, the best BURGER I ever had. Why? It was muddy and savory, saucy and full of different textures. It was a perfect mouth. Like a big Mac, only without the disappointing patty and bread in the middle. I know you'll say I forgot and taste like meat. No. I know for some people the ideal burger is a meat patty with fat that runs down your arm. I understand. I have preferred a veggie burger, and I think that is more interesting with many impractical tastes, and it's health food except that with so many whole food ingredients it is somehow. But it felt really exhausting for me, especially when I recommended it with their real potato frits and the tiger sauce the staff. And she was right. As they once said on my beloved show boss! with Lenny Henry, I never had a liquid as good as in my life. They had vegan shakes that looked absolutely amazing, but I had no one to share, and I knew that I would be in pain after I had everything in... I'm funny too, but I had a granola in the hotel room I was pretty excited about. Anyway, all this and gluten-free as I ordered it on the GF reel. The staff was also incredibly friendly. I'm seriously jealous that Iowa has this joint, but it's all for the best as I would win 5 lb a week if this place was on the street."

"We loved our entrees. My date didn't care about the soup. The waitress heard this and took the bill off. She was amazing not to remember her name. It was super loud in there, so it was hard to hear each other when you talked"

"There is no better place in West Des Moines for a business dinner, romantic weekend or after a work drink. After a number of long and frustrating flights you arrive at Hotel The Rewind. You drive your bags into the room, torment your laptop to bed [only enough to know that you are angry, but not enough to break it] and leave the room for Johnny in the lobby. You go to the Hostess station with a view that scares even the most widespread octane and meets Cienna. Although you look like a clogged Chihuahua, she welcomes you with the most welcoming smile and the positive attitude you have developed in months. You try to process the positivity that surrounds you as you 're leading to a table. You sit down and open the menu instinctively asking what just happened and are greeted by one of the many servers that are really there to treat you like a person. You order a drink, some water and end up in a really interesting conversation that takes five to ten minutes. This goes back when the drinks are served before you make an order for an appetizer. Everything is quiet, if a bit lonely, until the appetizer arrives. It's a meal. You have a spirit that dips salmon or bruschetta, and you think your stomach is done. The next drink. After you take a negro or bourbon, you are ready for a main dish. They care about the costs, but lead mental gymnastics to say that the company will pay for it or that this is a treat for itself... Well, it's and get what you want because you're worth it. There is absolutely no disappointment; each dish is carefully prepared and comes from the perfect temperature. Your intestine swells with the strokes of your fork and all about you loose meaning. You're full and paid. If you're going past the half empty bar, you're gonna call something. Their faces migrate to the row of empty chairs. You sit and Wade comes on you. This is your hardest decision of the night giving orders to a capable bartender, or let this bartender take you on a trip after dinner. Your results may vary. The trip ends, you stand irresistibly from your 4 post butt support and strive from the restaurant towards elevator or your dino burning go kart. You look right and Cienna is there, with the same real smile you wish a good night. If you leave this place nothing but appreciate and happy, you have failed in any way. No other hotel, hotel restaurant or chain restaurant has always appreciated me and welcomed like Johnny 's The Rewind. This place is really the standard how to treat people like people, and how to cook food at a high level without being pretentious. It is a welcome departure from the $30 slices of Avocado and 'fancy ified' chain restaurant dishes from other hotels."

"Love the restaurant had awful service at the end and took 30 min to get cashed out. Server struggled with bill and there was no manager support. Odd because it is very well run. Will definitely go back and hope the server gets more support/training. Awesome spot."

"I was in this place last night with my girlfriend and had quite a great experience, I loved the illuminated ambience of this restaurant, the stand near the sushi bar and the feeling and surroundings of this place. We ordered the spicy chicken dumplings as an app along with the miso soup and both were delicious! On our entrees, she ordered the General Tsaos Chicken, I ordered the Thai coconut Curry Cashew shrimp, spicy tuna reel, spider roll and the crispy king's crab reel. I ate ALOT from Sushi in my life and for places in Iowa this was some of the best sushi I had in this state without question! Everything was very fresh and tasty, but regarding this $15 king crab roll I'm not sure if I recommend that, as the crab meat is crushed, that throws me away, I had expected it to come quite, but in both ways it was bad! Our server was very friendly and came with a smile, she asked how the food was, what is common and of course the food was amazing! I asked if we wanted to refill and quickly returned with a smile: our bill came to $88. And some change, I typed $32 and we left happy, our server and the staff that was around, said thank you for the top and the business: Great place, coming back!"

"Very delicious. I have the drunk noodles with crispy tofu and no eggs. I liked the interior, and it was quite busy about the lunchtime, so you could say it is a popular place among the locals. I want to go back to try more items from the menu. You have many options that can be made vegan. Definitely recommend!"

"grateful for them offer vegan options. the gnocchi like really good a couple times I ate it and quite bland some of the other times I was the vegan pizza is good, but I would ask for them with less vegan cheese (if I got it they put a lot on)"

"not the biggest fan of the market itself its quite small and not a whole tonne of a frozen food choice for vegan vegetarian and only minimial vegan items around the load I saw, but the market is great! many vegan and vegetarian options and everything is clearly marked. it can get a lot to do, but the line goes fast. I had the falafel and the padthai and both were delicious! The Tofu Scrambble is okay. I think they're better for lunch. my appointment had something that had been on breakfast and he said it was just okay."

"GO TO ALBA for the food, for the drink, for the people We LOVE Alba and have never had anything but stellar service and immaculate, delicious food and drink. Saturday night, June 30, we had an hour before meeting our son downtown, so finally got to sit in the bar. Garrett (later learned he was the GM) made us our first cocktail, the Mother Nature, which we loved so much the first time we had it on the restaurant side that our waiter without us asking gave us the recipe! They were brilliant along with the pork belly rillettes... it was a delicacy! Garrett spent time chatting and explaining cocktails and liqueurs and shared three generous pours of different types that we had never tried so much fun! For our final drink, Steve ordered the Bing Crosby phenom and Garrett made me a special Manhattan with some type of chile liquor and it was so different and delicious. The hour we spent was a total experience good conversation in just the right dose and we learned about and got to try liquor that we would be hesitant to purchase but now know what we like! We're pretty adventurous cooks and diners, but Alba has offered some beautiful and delicious starters and entrees that have allowed us to taste and enjoy many different combinations and ingredients. I highly recommend visiting Alba SOON! Thanks Garrett and Alba!"

"if they are in a non- vegan restaurant and they want something vegan, it helps to have a talented chef who has thought about vegan options before visiting them. chef suman and his team did this. the morning menu has a vegan bowl with basmati rice, yellow split heels, carrots with quinoa, local green and black bohnenpatty has the current dinner menu: fried faro fried faro, picked vegetables, soy sauce, rice and veggie knusprig(Vegan)"

"My burgundy sauce was almost like a hardening Carmel, really tacky. Not sure if that’s right. I was not super impressed by that. I was impressed with the unique items that aren’t usually around Des Moines, like escargot and oysters. The atmosphere is like copper cop and Edison light bulb. My service was rude to us for not eating quick enough and splitting a reservations/party’s bill, but would you really expect different from 17 young adults? I would eat here again anyhow."

"Legit Japanese food in the middle of Iowa. All we had was delicious. The sushi we had to share was part of the freshest nigger I had in Iowa. I also had the Yaki Niku bowl (picture) that was more food than I negotiated for! Service was excellent and will be ASAP again as soon as I am back in Des Moines. If you have a love affair with Japanese food, this is a must in the area."

"we had heard for some time that the marina wood was excellently fired pizza. also we were told very small so they probably need reservations. early at the weekend to stay and in the did was the whole sitting place full, but they had outside seats with heating and it was okay that we sat there and have a wonderful pizza. I think we'll keep up next time and eat in. the pizza was great, the food was great and the people were great"

"Cannot say enough good things about this place. Walked in to LCD Soundsystem bumping through the speakers which was excellent. We went during happy hour so half price drink specials! We ordered a LOT of food and it was all outstanding. We over ordered for sure but it wasn’t even expensive! Shocked considering the level of quality and detail. I got two shareable plates and a wine for $20!? A great deal. Will absolutely go here again very soon."

"We had a reservation at 5:00 pm for 2 of us. Arrived/seated timely. Server was very nice and talkative but he took our order, brought our bottle of wine and then literally disappeared. Our food was brought by someone else who literally dropped it and ran off. No one checked to see if our steaks were cooked to the correct temp or if we needed anything else. The steaks were great but we had to flag someone down to get horseradish. We sat there with my husband's plate being empty and me waiting for a box for more than 30 minutes. Again, finally got someone and asked if they could find our server. We left at 7:15 but should have been out of there by 6 p.m. Have always had good service and food but this was very disappointing in the service."

"I LOVE this place! Simply one of the best menus in town. Great atmosphere, great people. I get in here and I never want to leave. Full bar and great wine selection as well. Salad bar is not to be missed! I just can't say enough about this place. Been going here since before I was old enough for school. Never once been disappointed."

"kathmandu has several clearly marked vegan and vegetarian elements on their menu. I enjoyed the vegan momo that are Nepalese noodles and come with a very tasty spicy sauce. we also ordered two more vegan curries that had beautiful spicy and aromen, but unfortunately were a little undersalted. perhaps there was an unfortunate day; I would be willing to give the advantage of the doubt and try kathmandu again!"
