"My husband and I always had a pronounced admiration for all things of Asian origin. Carpets, sculptures, wall paintings, furniture, teapots, statues, wells, garden stools, handmade jewelry, music... we simply cannot get enough of the quiet Zen to meet with this sector in the world. In a recent visit to the well-known Westfield Century City Mall in Los Angeles, we realized that we found a new reverence to add to our growing list... RockSugar. A darkened corridor leads you to a massive ornated path after entering to find what is developing. When we went through the passage, the melody of singing birds mixed with the intonations of flowing water and oriental music. Two benches placed on both sides of this width forced me to conjure thoughts, maybe just sit there with my husband for a few minutes before it goes on. It was so peaceful. When we admired the calm feeling of this zone, we came to the outdoor terrace where the visual and auditory enchantment continued. The outdoor terrace is an extension of the indoor bar area and a rather rewarding spectacle. Eight comfortable sofa beds are strategically placed around four table-rounded glass-encased fireplaces on a heated floor. Enormous pottery vases filled with wooden stems and wire mesh bubbles salute those who go through their herd. Towering sculpture wall panels offer intrigue, while welcoming natural tones and living plants in huge plants provide beauty and privacy between seating. Overhead, imitative sky lanterns seem to float over you as you feed. We thought this was a beautiful finishing touch, and definitely a piece of conversation for those who eat among them or go under their seductive position. As the evening approaches quickly, the skyscrapers become more glowing, as the sky continues to darken. If you plan the time of the day accordingly, you can see the magic of the sky lanterns against a color changing sky over witnesses. Sky lanterns, also called Sky candles, have been used in Asian traditions for hundreds of years. Throughout the year, Thailand is used for special occasions and celebrations, it is also a lucky thing to release a skyscraper into the air. In Thai culture this act is symbolic of problems and worries that float away. These lanterns are also recorded in Chinese festivals. In Taiwan you can see that during their annual lantern festival they are released from the thousands in the night sky! RockSugar presents her RockTail Hour every day from 4-6:30. The Blood Orange Mojito is the usual potion of my husband at Rock Sugar. The taste is different from everything else we have made our finger before, and with Bacardi Superior Rum, blood orange and mint. My personal favorite is Orchard Road Martini. This concoction is created with Vodka, Gin, St. Germain Liqeur, Lemongrass and Hibiscus. Pack enough stamps after just one, I usually one second (and sometimes one third of these lush pink cocktails. The Sake Dragon is our third recommendation on the RockTail Front. Vodka, please, St. Germain Liqeur, Mint, Shiso and Lime up this green-colored jewel will leave you another when you are finished! You will find RockSugar’s RockTails are not only taste (or liquor, but also that they are extremely enthusiastic. The Sake Dragon is a beautiful shade of light green, while the Blood Orange Mojito appears in a bright orange shade. My favorites, the Orchard Road Martini, comes perfectly pink with a dark layer of Hibiscus Liqeur that covers the drink with a fascinating appearance. RockSugar cannot be impressed with her RockBites either. Some of our favorites are the Chicken Samosas, the Potstickers, the Indian filled Flatbread, the Vegtable Spring Rolls and the Chicken and Mushroom Lettuce Wraps.
