"very poor service. the food was in order, but they take twice the time they say to prepare, and they end up waiting despite the call away in advance. also the staff probably the manager seems absently spirited and not interested. one of my friends called her for a catering order for a event and he didn't even have to give details despite 3-4 follow-ups. it's like they don't care. avoid this place as they can eat the same and get a lot better service otherwise where."

"Ordered Masala Sauce did not have much flavor but was very creamy. Even just some salt improves the sauce, and Im not the kind of person to really indulge in salt. The description for the chicken tikka masala says its cooked with peppers and onions and I expected that in the masala sauce (perhaps incorrectly). Very bland overall. Also ordered Palak Paneer same as with the Masala Sauce. Not very much flavor but very creamy. The cheese seems to be in very small chunks almost as if it was all blended and not larger ones like in the picture. Very bland. Garlic Naan is amazing! Very flavorful and fluffy. Favorite part of the entire meal. Not sure if this restaurant lets you order by level of spice but you if you prefer spicy, you should probably specify that in the request section."

"This restaurant blew us away. The food was delicious. We ordered aloo tikki and butter chicken. The butter chicken sauce was rich and had so much depth. You could tell it was a recipe that has been perfected over generations. Very friendly service and cozy atmosphere as well. Highly recommend!"

"I ordered the lamb vindaloo, requesting it to be spicy. The waiter inquired about the level of spice on a scale from 1-10, to which I replied with an 8. He jokingly mentioned putting a 4 instead, but I insisted on an 8. However, it seemed like he had initially noted down a 4 for my order. When I received my meal, it was disappointingly not very spicy. Additionally, when paying the bill, I thanked the cashier for splitting the check, but was ignored. The combination of the unimpressive food and the rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff assures me that I will not be returning to this restaurant. I give it a well-deserved 1 star."

"Ashoka is fantastic. Somewhat off its heyday of years past, the restaurant is just as good as it 's always been (with the benefit of being less crowded). Dishes are typical Indian fare and are all delicious. Staff is friendly, but there can be delays when they aren 't correctly staffed. Definitely a 'forgotten gem ' in San Diego. Highly recommend."

"This is the best of Indian restaurants in the area. My husband is from India so he is special about his dishes, but they will make them custom, the Dahl is very good as the Aloo. Make sure no ghee to make the dishes vegan. I give this a good Raring and they have added dozens of vegan menu items and they are now tagged with a whole vegan menu. You have a good staff that is friendly and remembers you. The hours are also a little uncomfortable, but they are fast and accommodating. "Campy and dated interior with friendly service and delightful Indian music. We did not care for the paper table covers. This is our first visit and we always try the Chicken Tikka Masala with Naan. It was missing a certain spice and was a little too much tomato taste. The chicken pieces were very good. The Naan (bread) was fantastic. Good chicken, beef and vegetarian options plus a cute kid's menu. We might go back someday when we are visiting St. Cloud."
