"I once asked a Japanese friend at the gym which sushi place he would recommend, so we 've been going to 101 for 20 years since. So if you like Un-slick and cheaper by a lot in an ugly strip mall…. It reminds me of the place in Tokyo in the series Midnight Diner on Netflix. It has achieved not trying/Is -ness. Last night we ordered a generous amount in an a la carte variety that included items we’ve never had, like Yellowtail collar, and mushroom Miso soup, for example. All served quickly with excellent taste. My wife asked me to guess the price and I guessed $45 and it was $35, including beer. They were about 75% filled on a Friday night at 6:30. So if you want quality and you have an accepting attitude… They won 't yell Ohai-O! when you come in, just a warm welcome. My favorite tell is that you have to step over an unceremonious drainpipe three feet directly in front of the front door. The place is like one of those famous Japanese teacups with the rough finish mistake i.e. “wabi sabi” glaring out at you lovingly. The whole place says “wabi sabi” come to think of it. Their unglamorous friendliness is refreshing. Btw, Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie were playing softly in the background as we walked in. Louis Armstrong and other early Jazz was also played. Who does that? I think Joni Mitchell and Elvis C. might go there buy not Elton John, if you get my drift. Try it. Or don 't, because I love it 75% full, but 85% wouldn 't wreak it. I only risk telling you because we love them and feel better saying so out loud."

"Fun, lively reasonbly priced. Daichan popped my kaiten sushi cherry.......and i loved every second of it! woot!! <br/ <br/ dropped into daichan on halloween because i was craving sushi and above all....daishan is located near by to my pad. i also heard daichan was cheap and i had built up a good deal of intestinal fortitude this year so off i went. <br/ <br/ my friend and i were seated at the bar and to my dismay, all the fish was PRE-CUT!!!! boooooooooooo!! well, since i was unsure of the etiquette, i ordered a pitcher of kirin and sat back and watched the other patrons do their thing. after i finished my first mug, i joined in on the plate snatching and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish..........it was actually decent! <br/ <br/ maguro (tuna): nice thick cuts and pretty fresh for being pre cut <br/ sake (salmon): very thick cut as well and as with the maguro, pretty good for being pre-cut <br/ hamachi (yellowtail): just eh.......not good, not bad. <br/ uni (sea urchin): this was pretty good.....i was rather surprised <br/ ankimo (monkfish liver): just ok. not much flavor. <br/ chicken karaage: nice and fresh but not a lot of flavor. <br/ <br/ at this point, you are probably asking me why i gave the place 4 stars right? wellll!!!!!! <br/ <br/ it's because the itamae, bruce, was fricking hilarious. i bought a pitcher and poured him a beer. then kanpai!! filled up another mug.....kanpai!!!! we continued to chug beers all night with him buying a pitcher, me buying the next one, him buying...etc. so much for a mellow evening noshing on sushi and getting to bed early. bah!! <br/ <br/ and boy did we get SLOSHED!!!! bruce was behind the sushi bar making sushi with a ghetto slant. and every time bruce attempted to walk, he would stumble sideways. gooooooood times!! now i know why the fish is pre-cut.....so bruce wouldn't hurt himself when he gets drunk with the customers. lol!! <br/ <br/ in summary, daichan is a good place for decent sushi and a rocking great time chugging beers with the sushi chef! hahaha!"
