"A great restaurant and one of the best Indian restaurants in DC. My friend and I recently went here to celebrate a special occasion and we were seated immediately even before our reservation time. The food came out in a timely manner and we received good service. The ambiance is upscale, white tablecloths, with a dress code (smart casual). I started off by ordering a glass of the Sangiovese, which was extremely disappointing and tasted terrible-I didn't end up finishing it. My friend and I split several dishes, which is definitely the way to go. Paneer Tikka-Incredibly delicious-the paneer was perfectly fried, and well-seasoned and balanced with the pepper and tomato Plain Naan-A very solid naan Truffle Naan-The best naan we tried-the truffles added delicious flavor and were well-placed throughout the naan. My friend and I ended up getting two of them. If you plan on getting naan, this is the one to get. Chili Garlic Naan-A fine naan, but could have used more garlic. Lachha Paratha-Some good funk with the goat cheese but could have used more. Mango Chutney-Sweet, delicious, and paired extremely well with the meats. Tandoori Salmon-The sauce was good, but the salmon could have used more flavor even though it was relatively good quality Club Thali: Lots of good dishes and only two meat dishes on it. The dal was by far the best dish on the Thali-lots of ghee, creamy, well-spiced, and flavorful. The fish and lamb curries and the chicken makhani were fine but needed more spice and flavor (they did pair well with the mango chutney and naan). The thali also had a fine yogurt dish and came with a small portion of well-cooked rice. If I was ordering again, I would have split the lamb vindaloo, dal, and the lobster. Gulab Jamun-Fine, but could have been sweeter and more flavorful. The ice cream was a nice accompaniment. Kulfi-It had an interesting texture and tasted a bit like halva (the Middle Eastern kind) but overall disappointing. The prices are fair for a fancy, downtown DC restaurant, and I recommend for your next special occasion."
