"As easy as it is to find enjoyable restaurants of every stripe in New York City, I can remember my parents laboring to find good ones in NJ, where I grew up. Now, having moved back after decades in NY, I have to concede what the owner of our local body shop says--there aren't enough good places. We tried Cafe Chameleon for the first time this weekend, and while the bar was hoppin, the dining room was calm, with two young servers handling five active tables spread out in the large room. There were half a dozen four-tops available, but we were seated next to a table with two couples who at times shrieked with laughter: my wife remarked quietly that, in France where she grew up, the maitre d' would have asked those diners to be more considerate. (It's possible the restaurant was trying to calm the couples by seating us there, as there had also previously been a group of diners at the table they placed us at. The drinks were good, and I imagine a serious wine enthusiast would enjoy the thoughtful list...don't know why the server didn't think to offer it...while the food was merely okay. (The octopus my wife and son shared was nicely prepared; the main courses were all meh. One of the co-owners greeted us warmly during the meal, after the loud couples had gone, and there may be good dinners to be had here, if someone knows what Chameleon does well, but this didn't join our slowly-growing list of till-next-time places."

"What an amazing experience I had here! From walking in to the check, the service was extremely friendly and welcoming. Our server, Marcus, was accommodating and answered our questions and gave good suggestions, and every other server who stopped by our table was also very kind. Always a plus when the service is friendly! As far as food goes, we ordered the Burrata Toast, Spanish Meatballs, and the 16 oz. Pepper Rubbed Steak – all of the dishes were delicious and seasoned well. Portions were decent for the meatballs and the steak, but I did notice the burrata was only two slices of toast, so fair warning if you plan on sharing that with a big group. Don't know if they adjust the serving based on how many people are in the party but I'd hedge a guess that they don't. But anyway – not a speck was left on our plates afterwards regardless! hahaWe sat outside, but the atmosphere both inside and outside was lovely, and for a Friday night, the place wasn't extremely packed or loud, which was also a plus. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting Tampa and looking for a bit of a higher end joint to round out the food tour. Since this place is right in Armature Works, you also get the chance to visit the other restaurants and attractions nearby, along with walking alongside the Riverwalk, which runs right outside the restaurant.Parking: There is a big parking lot right by Armature Works, where this restaurant is located, that was $10 flat for the evening. It's worth noting the Valet was the same amount, so if you're going to swing for the parking lot, might as well get your car valeted to save time! Not sure what the going rate was for the street parking, but most likely was cheaper."
