"We were very excited to dine at the Newport Grill. I kept seeing it in the lists of top restaurants in the Wichita area. We were somewhat disappointed. First off, the decibel level of the restaurant’s noise was unreal. The restaurant was full at 7:00pm and my daughter had an app on her phone which measured it at 83 which is the same as a police siren. It was hard to have a conversation and was very close to hurting my ears. We started the meal off with calamari. It was good, but nothing special. We then progressed to the salads. My daughter and I had Caesar salads. It was OK, but I didn’t feel like it had enough dressing. My husband had the Kale Salad and said it was good. At this point we noticed other tables had bread. I asked a passing waiter if we had to order it. He said we needed to tell our waiter that we wanted it. It wasn’t an item on the menu, so I am not sure how first-time diners would know this, however, when it arrived, it was absolutely fantastic. A 10/10. We asked for seconds. The main course was a disappointment for me. I had the Faroe Island Salmon, with hoisin sauce. I am surprised they even mentioned the hoisin sauce as it was a tiny drizzle on the side of the plate as if it was a decoration from a ketchup bottle. I am guessing less than ½ a teaspoon of hoisin. I asked for more which our waiter brought promptly. The Salmon was bland’ish without the hoisin. My husband had the Pacific Swordfish and said it was very good, but he is easy to please with fish. Our daughter had the Chicken Alfredo and complimented it. Our waiter was very attentive. He refilled my husband and daughter’s Cokes multiple times. I had a glass of wine. The wine list was extensive. The prices were reasonable for an upscale’ish seafood restaurant, but I am not sure I can recommend it, however, that bread may bring me back. And to think, had we not seen it on other tables and requested it, we might never have had the pleasure of tasting it."
