"First, a disclaimer: Please indulge my perhaps xenophobic condemnation, but I have learned not to trust the wait staff at typical Asian restaurants. Both a cultural chasm and a language divide separate American vegans from Asian wait staff. They do not understand that sea animals are not eaten by vegetarians. You often can find these animals listed right on the menus in the so-called vegetarian sections. I shudder to guess at the ingredients that are not listed. Asian restaurants are no more a vegan/vegetarian safe haven than compared to any other ethnic cuisine. But Nancy Chang's is different! They have a separate menu that is vegan, not just vegetarian. And both times I have eaten there, my waiters have spoken both fluent English and fluent Vegan. Steering clear from all the mock meats, which make a mockery of vegetarianism, I still had half of the vegan menu from which to choose, which was plenty. Plus they serve brown rice. While the vegan menu is standard Chinese-American fare with sugary sauces, within that genre the food is excellent. Both its interior and its outdoor patio are comfortable and spacious, and great places to meet your date. In fact, if you park in the small front lot, you will walk thru the bar area, which qualifies as a singles bar. Or use the rear entrance, which adjoins its very large rear parking lot. Both times that I ate here were after the Veg Food Fest held in Worcester. The Fest is a crowded and noisy zoo that is not conducive for enjoying the food. But at Nancy Chang, you will thoroughly enjoyed your meal."

"Now, here’s a little story: I found myself unable to gather food during the recent blizzard. Early in the morning, I ventured out to the local general store, which was surprisingly still open despite the thick snow. As dinnertime approached, I started to wonder if I could find something to eat. I trudged through the dazzling snow with no one else on the street except for a few snowplows. After a struggle to get out of my neighborhood and onto the main road, I felt a glimmer of hope and continued on. However, everything was dark. There were no lights, no open signs—nothing. Driving through downtown Kennebunk, I noticed people inside The Blue Coffee Shop, so I parked my car in the snow and bravely went inside to check it out. To my dismay, it turned out to be a private event, and their "closed" sign was posted on the door. What a disappointment! I felt like I had struck out, but I didn't give up; I kept going and got my car out of the snow to head to Wells. Unfortunately, everything else was closed. After much searching, I was ready to give up when I spotted Maple Leaves Garden. The open sign was brightly lit, and I could see the cook inside! I took a deep breath, navigated through the snow, and walked in. The owner was pleasantly surprised to see a customer and I promptly ordered Chicken Mai Fun. I waited about five minutes in the lobby, and when my order was ready, I was warmly wished a safe journey home as I left. I thanked them for being open during such a challenging time. I made it back home safely, despite the slick roads and icy conditions. In summary, the folks at Maple Leaves Garden really come through for you when you need it most. The Chicken Mai Fun was a large portion and incredibly delicious! Well done!"
