"I attended a work function at Saltine last night and enjoyed the experience very much. They are known for seafood so I went with the fish and chips—a simple dish, certainly, but executed well. It came with two huge pieces of fish, more than I could eat myself. The cod they used didn’t taste fishy at all... just clean-tasting and not overcooked or dry like fried fish can sometimes be. It wasn’t overly salty either. It was pretty much perfect... crunchy batter, hot on the inside, freshly cooked. Make sure to get the vinegar to shake on your fish too... although it’s also served with a herby, creamy tartar sauce and ketchup. The simple, hand-cut-style fries (with peel intact) were served underneath the fish and could have been a bit more crispy but they were still tasty. Like the tartar sauce, the little hushpuppies on the side were a bit more elevated than your typical fast food version. The food took a little while to come compared to some other work events I’ve attended, but we were a decent sized group, so that sometimes happens. I wish I had ordered the triple chocolate dessert—I got the bread pudding, which wasn’t bad, but a little boring compared to the chocolate one which looked amazing and rich. I would definitely come back again to try other items from their menu. Also, their drink menu looked interesting as well."
