"Situated in a somewhat unlikely location in an area of town that seems to be office buildings or similar with no other bars or restaurants nearby, we were initially struggling to find it as the restaurant name (Late) is only printed in very small letters adjacent to the door. Most of the signage says Und for some reason and so we didn’t realise initially this was the correct venue. Internally it consists of a dining room, function room and courtyard. We were shown to the courtyard which was largely filled with noisy guests from a wedding party, including the groom who was walking along blindfolded with a book balanced on top his head. An Austrian tradition perhaps? Fortunately they soon cleared off to the function room, and the courtyard was a pleasant and peaceful setting to enjoy our meal. Service was efficient and friendly and they all spoke good English, as well as providing an English menu. The menu consists largely of three different set menus although there were also a few a la carte options. I couldn’t quite work this out, the a la carte options still seemed to be a set price depending on how many dishes you chose (up to 10!). We went for the more expensive set menu, simply because that appealed to us the most, and this consisted of eight courses, if you include the appetiser and petit fours. An amuse bouche was served in a bed of sand which was an unusual touch – not quite sure what it was, but clearly something edible! Bread was charged at an extra €4 which seems a bit mean going on the cost of the meal, but it was nonetheless still warm and beautifully soft with the three different varieties being served with a herb butter and a smoked meat pate of some sort. All of the courses were really very good indeed, I’d struggle to pick out any as a highlight as they were all so good. I wouldn’t normally choose Foie Gras on ethical grounds, but I have to say it was deliciously rich and creamy and the accompanying brioche was very good too. Other highlights were the soft boiled egg with bacon, the monkfish and a very tender beef fillet. A desert of strawberry mousse and lime mousse and chocolate was a great finish to the meal. The only let down was a latte which was served pretty much cold, lukewarm at best, and was charged extra despite the petit fours on the menu. I’ve never had petit fours without a coffee before. The wine list was extensive and included some very expensive bottles. The friendly waiter suggested a local Sauvignon Blanc which was apparently made within ten miles of the restaurant. This was a decent bottle and good value at €26. Overall, this was a quite exceptionally good meal. OK, at over €200 with the wine it should be pretty good, but if you fancy treating yourself I would highly recommend it."
