"I was here visiting family and it was one of the few vegetarian places my uncle knew. As such, he took us here during lunch time, but we ordered off of the dinner menu as opposed to the cheaper lunch menu. However, they threw in soup for free, since it was lunch. We didn't know what to get and, quite honestly, out of the three in my party, I was the only one who was hungry. We ended up getting three items: sweet and sour fish with bamboo shoots and random peas, pan fried tofu with mushrooms, and I forgot the last one but it's some sort of konjac stir fried with basil. There were also the individual servings of Hot and Sour Soup. The S&S fish was properly tangy. Interestingly enough, at our table, I'm the only one with a taste for sweet and sour so I was the only one that liked it. The konjac ? was good, as per usual. The pan fried tofu was an all around favorite. It was still fairly crispy, depite being drenched in a brown sauce and served on a sizzling hot plate. You also have a choice of brown or white rice. All in all, it reminded me of a vegetarian Chinese restaurant my family is a regular of back in Houston. The dishes were good and moderately priced, depending on what you ordered nothing too salty and everything was well seasoned within reason. The service was decent; they came by regularly to see if we were ready. The waitresses were also multilingual English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. However, I was under the impression it also catered more towards the non Asian community, despite the Asian vegetarian menu. Good stuff! Finding a parking spot was almost a nightmare almost. : All in all, I rate this a 3.75, so rounded up to a 4.0."

"TLDR: Excellent handmade noodles and traditional pastries easily one of the best that I 've had in the SGV 626. Aside from the exceptional food and affordable cost, service was outstanding throughout the night. I visited Northern Cafe unsure of what to expect. There are many Northern Cafe in the SGV 626 area, but I 've never been to this one despite having been to Monterey Park so many times. No surprise, though, as it 's quite hidden between buildings. Parking is easy in the large lot nearby. I ordered the House Special Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and having been the last person in my party to show up didn 't think twice about what I was ordering. My favorite part is that there is self service for refreshing, iced cucumber water. I didn 't realize that I was eating handmade noodles until I realized how good they were. My friends knew I enjoyed it by how little I talked during the meal; though I enjoyed it at a pace of what I thought was slow, I finished my food and broth before my friends finished half their food. The spice was pretty strong and left me coughing, but the broth itself was very tasty and fresh. Although it was a little pricy, it was worth every dollar. We also ordered two appetizers, the steamed dumplings and the beef and onion pancakes. The skins of the dumplings had substance and felt like they were prepared with utmost care, and the insides were juicy, meaty, and flavorful. The pancakes were not my favorite as they were oily, but they were fried so well I couldn 't help but enjoy them regardless. Compared to all the others that I 've had, this easily rises to the top. Having come later near 10:00pm, I have to admit service was commendable and available at all times. The servers were attentive and did not rush any of the guests out even near their closing hours."

"Wow, I forgot to Yelp Hooshik after my visit last February, and now it appears to be closed, another victim of the pandemic. I hope it 's able to reopen in some form when things go back to normal, but if not, I 'm at least grateful I got to check it out once. I went with June K. after lunch at Chengdu Taste (a casually gluttonous day hang with a dear friend--what a wonderful thing that I 'm sure I took for granted at the time). We were in the mood for dessert, found Hooshik on Yelp, and decided bingsoo would hit the spot. We 're both Korean and grew up going out for bingsoo together in Koreatown, so this was an unexpected treat during our afternoon in Monterey Park. The cafe was clean and cute and entirely empty on a Tuesday after lunch. We ordered from a nice ajusshi at the register and took a seat at one of the many tables. We got our shaved ice, or falling snow, in big bowls on a cafeteria tray. We opted for the black sesame and fresh strawberry falling snows, with a side of mango to go with the strawberry. Both were delicious, cold and sweet and satisfying. I loved the soft, delicately creamy texture of the shaved ice, or milk snow, that formed the base, and the toppings were all superb. The black sesame came with black sesame, red bean, injeolmi rice cake, and sliced almonds, the strawberry with fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and red bean. I haven 't had bingsoo since this outing and I would pay a lot of money for another bowl of this falling snow. If Hooshik ever opens up again, I promise I will be there."

"We absolutely love this late night gem for skewers. Over the past year, we've seen their space change so much, accommodating pandemic guidelines and setting up for only outdoor seating, then moving indoors with some initial interior changes and now with full blown panoramic screens across every wall and small screens at each table with karaoke songs, music videos, and lyrics. The updates and improvements surprised us each time, but wow, kudos to them for making that continued effort to carry out their vision of the space. Despite the space and design changes, what hasn't changed is the quality of their food. We come for the food and stay for the vibes, lol. (We usually come with a group of people. The skewers are phenomenal. The beef skewers are our favorite consistently tender and flavorful, not at all dry. Other favorites include lamb skewers, scallop with vermicelli, eggplant, steamed buns, and Taiwanese sausage. We usually get quite an assortment and end up adding more beef skewers every time. It's really that good. The meats are so well seasoned and well cooked. The menu is completely digitized and you place the order directly from your phone. So efficient! The servers are friendly and usually attentive to your water refill or tray removal needs. I would love to see a more eco friendly way of serving their foods (without using styrofoam trays , and I could already see a little bit of improvement here and there, but it's okay. Like I said, the food is seriously that great."

"Damn I usually love going to this location, But today 4/23/23 12:42 pm was a total miss. In customer service experience. A word of advice...Take the Ready to order Butter Bolo off the menu! The staffs are too busy to make it properly...1 Person taking order Thank you girl! For helping me ask your coworker about my order...sorry if I gave you an attitude. I see you helping waves of customers 1 Guy busy making drinks1 Girl wrapping bread she forgot because she busy wrapping breads 1 Guy doing random things this guy was right next to the damn oven where the bolo buns are in and didn 't even bother checking it. I heard a timer went off twice $3.50 for cold butter in bolo buns that 's sold for $1.80 by itself. Just buy bolo buns from Summery, go to Ralphs in the next plaza and buy butter. Go home and toast it or microwave it yourself After a 15 minute wait for 2 slightly warm buns and 2 slabs of cold butter...I have seen and eaten Subway bread toasted faster and warmer than that. 15 minute...That 's not right. I was too upset to eat in-store. The cashier said I could ask them to make it right if I 'm not satisfied. Thank you cashier girl...but your coworkers in the back will probably forget about me . No thank you, I wasted enough time waiting for 2 bread. Had to go home and microwave the bread for it to be hot. Which ONLY tooK 20 seconds. The butter bolo had potential but don 't advertise hot and made to order anymore. Just sell it as is. Go home and heat it yourself and make some tea and enjoy in the comfort of your own home. Skip the made to order part. Your workers don 't need extra work on weekends, since it 's already so busy. But other than this incident, I usually like this store. Staffs are nice and selection of breads is good."
