San Diego boasts a vibrant culinary scene, renowned for fish tacos, California burritos, and craft beer, reflecting its coastal location and Mexican influences.
Buffet
"As buffets go, it was pretty good. Large selection of Asian food, the teppanyaki was quite tasty with good choices for meat and veggies. The fries (a personal weakness of mine) were crisp and tasty, but not as hot as I like them. Still had a lot of them, though. Didn't try the sushi. Update 2024-07 Teppanyaki is still very good. Fries haven't changed; crisp, tasty, and barely warm. General Tso's chicken and salt-and-pepper wings were both great. I did try some ice cream this time, and it was horrible. Didn't taste like ice cream, and didn't have the texture of ice cream. I tried two flavors, and they tasted pretty much the same, which was quite odd. It will be a hard pass for ice cream from this point forward. I tried a few sushi pieces as well; won't do that again either."

"I ordered chicken salad, but I got steak on wilted lettuce. Many of the tables were dirty and had food bags and baskets on them from customers not throwing away their trash. It was on a Marine base, so I would expect them not to be pigs."

"My husband and I are locals and frequent there. We have always had the best time but the last 2 times we have had a different experience. Yesterday I ordered a grey goose martini and after 15 or so minutes the server came up and said we are out of grey goose so I brought you a kettle one. I asked if they had Belvedere because I am not a fan of Kettle and he said sure. Not sure if that made him mad but my already expensive grey goose martini at $20 went an upcharge of $5 to $25! Im sorry but that is past New York prices and I was not happy even though I didn't complain. Will definitely think twice about coming back which is too bad because the food is delicious!!!"

"Very disappointed in the carnitas bowl I ordered. The meat was mostly fat. By the time I got back to my hotel to eat it, it was too late to go back to complain and get something else. Need better quality control. I've not had this issue at other Chipotles."

"How have we missed this place before? We have either lived in the San Diego area or been coming for winter breaks since the early 70’s, but only recently discovered this terrific restaurant. Easily reached on Pacific Coast Highway near Old Town State Park, and with a huge parking area, there is just no reason not to try it. There is an immediate friendly café vibe when you enter and the place is absolutely spotless. The service is superb and the menus selections vast, featuring Italian, Mexican and American breakfasts. Their prices are very reasonable and the portions plenty large. Most importantly, the quality of the food was excellent as was the coffee. Having read of some people's less than satisfactory experience, we can honestly say we found nothing wrong at all. Sometimes, you get back what you project. If some of the reviews we've read were true, then the manager should have been notified immediately. We will be coming back for sure!"

"Overall, it was a very good experience. The food was some of the best I've had in San Diego. We tried the three-course meal with wine pairing, and everything was fresh with incredible wine choices from around the world. The only downside was that despite mentioning my birthday in the reservation, there was no special acknowledgment like a candle or note with the food."

"Since Covid everything is smaller, more expensive and you now have to pay for edamame. This is true everywhere but difference here was significant. I will still return however! "

"Huge place!! Massive. Great decor. Tons of seating and various corners and private areas for business lunches etc. Great food and good beer and wine selections. Perfect to host events around a conference upstairs."

"Everything about this restaurant was excellent!the burger, the halibut, the salmon tartare, clam chowder soup, strawberry spritz and red wines were all to die for!! Daniel was our server and he was an absolute treat! The others were equally as wonderful, warm, and attentive! The view of the water was unobstructed and stunning with the sunset. We will definitely come back when we're in town! If you plan to come, plan accordingly and reserve your table days in advance (for brunch even further ahead of time). Thanks for everything!"

"Our server Kaitlin was Amazing!! My first time here was a very different experience than my second time I joined the waitlist online before arriving and we waited less than five minutes for a table The server creates the best experience (Kaitlin) She explained the menu with ease My daughter wanted a “special drink” aka a Mocktail and Kaitlin let her know she could have a Shirley Temple or whatever she wanted which made her light up The drinks were absolutely delicious and the food was even better I recommend the Salmon and Lobster noodles Coco Passion was delishhh I love the deep booths They provide a level of privacy that feels soo soothing Although there were many many people in the restaurant the booths allowed the noise to be separated Our server remained attentive and even helped me choose between the Lobster noodles and the Salmon Food Service Atmosphere was Great!!! Will definitely be returning"

"10,000 out of 10 stars. This place is universal in Japan, but has taken 10+ years to finally start expanding out in the US. This branch is the very first franchise owned not corporate owned in the US. You cant fail with the chicken cutlet curry, but most everything is good or great."

"Hands down best thai place in san diego, no joke. Each dish is busting with flavor and the staff is attentive and kind. I come here regularly and it's an absolute sleeper hit!"

"I with they would just serve the tables. It's so annoying when places like this act like a Chipotle. We shouldn't have to go up and order, they should serve us. The pizza is a good wannabe new york style pie. Not great, but very good. The parking lot is a joke. 4 bucks for literally 45 minutes to park in a strip mall. What a joke. Probably won't be back because of the parking lot alone, but the pizza wasn't good enough to warrant a return. Friendly bartenders, which again, why is it set up like a Chipotle. Take cards and start tabs, this trend needs to stop or people like myself and family won't come to places like this. We tip extremely well, we should be SERVED, not have to do all the work ourselves."

"The food is delicious! Third time going there and everytime the quality of the food is there. I'm very selective on the chilaquiles and I appreciate that they are nice and crispy tortillas and that they actually toss the chips in the sauce and not pour it on top like other places. Their creme brulee French toast is amazing."

"I was here with a sort of catering party a week ago, a group called the Sierra Club, and I had a great time with my fellow members. The pizza came out as fast as it could've despite us consuming it all quickly, plus I'm not complaining since a new pizza came out every couple of minutes. The pizzas themselves were all delicious. My favorite was the BBQ pizza, which had just the right amount of sauce for the bread and toppings, which almost no other pizza parlor in the modern world gets right. The s'mores pizza was also great, and I could talk about all of the ones I had, but I think that would make this review even longer than it already is. I think the wait staff might've had a stressful day based on what I saw, but they were friendly and handled our massive party very well. I'm against alcohol, so I can't say much about the bartender, but based on my party's great mood, I think they probably did an outstanding job like the rest of the staff. I want to thank them all for a perfect evening!"

"Mostly everything served is very fresh. Food, service, and atmosphere are all very nice. The hosts are professional and fun. They are clearly excited to share this type of Japanese inspired fare as well as their love for it. The flavors here are simple. Each veg or protein has a distinctive flavor and texture that are clean, bright and are standouts by themselves. The broths range from light and simple to sturdy and complex. Taken together, the combination of unique flavors is the main attraction with their version of shabu-shabu. I say, their version overall because the vibe here feels like shabu-shabu through the eyes of a West-coaster. The sauces are amped-up rather than subtle and the veg portion sizes are sorely lacking relative to a traditional setting. I guess it shouldn 't shock me that this is a chain found on the West coast with a few locations in TX. Don 't expect to get out of here for less than $50/person. Think more like $50-70 per person. They do offer a 20%-off happy hour from 5pm-6pm, Monday through Friday as well as a return customer discount of %10-off."

"Not safe for food allergies and not a good option for vegans. My daughter, who has food allergies, asked the server if she could use a clean scoop for her sorbet. The server said she could run the scoop under hot water (really, you dont have.clean scoops in the back of an ice cream shop?! , but since they use the same scoop for everything, the sorbet could have milk and nuts in it. When we go to ice cream shops, most places accommodate us by going in the back to open a fresh package if need be, This server really didn't seem interested in helping us. I wanted to tell her look girlie. I've been coming here longer than you've been alive and have brought a lot of people here over the years. You could at least not be rude about it. But we just left and won't be back."

"Best açaí bowl I’ve had. Incredibly fresh and high quality ingredients really showcases the amazing bowl. The owner is also introducing new flavors to keep it interesting. My family has come here since it’s opening in 2015. Their juices and almond butters are delicious take home items too."

"The food and service really really impressed us. We were the last table sat for lunch so we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. A bit awkward as it was very very quiet but the staff were extremely attentive, friendly, and did not rush us at all. We enjoyed the drinks, salads and entrees we ordered a lot. The serving sizes were large and flavorful, making the price worth it. We came for the view, and on a cloudy day, it wasn’t quite the coastal feel that other reviewers might have given you. Instead, with a view of the pool, the golf course, and ocean in the deep background, you get the vibe that you’re at a fancy cabin retreat. And that’s also fun but a bit more serious than coastal. Note that for lunch there are no tablecloths but for dinner they dress every table up with white linens. In case that vibe affects your choice of outfit."
