"This restaurant serves classic American dishes that offer a sense of comforting familiarity, accompanied by a rich historical backdrop. The Continental Tavern has undergone several transformations throughout its over 200-year history, one of which involved serving as a stop on the Underground Railroad. After enjoying a delicious black and blue burger with sweet potato fries, I was fortunate enough to receive a tour of the building from Chris, the general manager. In the basement, you can see the original foundation and bricks that formed the tunnels used by enslaved people escaping to freedom, just two miles from the Delaware River. It’s remarkable how former owners of this establishment felt a deep sense of justice for the enslaved individuals who deserved liberation. During my visit, a local band was performing in the bar area, and I learned that various events, including tarot readings, take place regularly. This restaurant is a true gem in Yardley that everyone should visit, not only for the delicious food but also for its captivating history."
