"I went to Troutbeck tonight for dinner with my wife and parents. The grounds and ambience are absolutely beautiful, but the food fell well short of what it should be, especially at these prices. My wife 's pork was bland, dry and overcooked. The mushrooms they were served with seemed to be sautéed without any seasonings. Some of the nectarines in her salad seemed to be rotten. I had the lobster, which was surprisingly unflavorful. The side of corn was good. My parents had the bass, which I didn 't try, but they said it was good. The service was slow and inattentive. We took a look at the dessert menu, but none of it was appealing: Lava cake, cheesecake...tomato sorbet? After dinner, at the ice cream shop down the road (Kelly 's excellent), we bumped into another couple who had been eating at Troutbeck at the same time as us, and who had similarly not been interested in dessert there after what they said was a mediocre and disappointing meal. This restaurant is charging high end prices. The food should be masterful and exquisite. Unfortunately, it was far from that. Go here for the grounds, maybe a cocktail...then spend your money on dinner elsewhere."
