"Recently we stayed for two weeks at a hotel in the center of Hamburg. We are an older couple and not locals. We came to this restaurant in person to make a reservation and at the time of booking we spoke English with them. They know English. The next day we arrived at the restaurant exactly on time. Again, we spoke to the waiter who received us in English and made it clear that we did not speak or read German. He led us to an extremely tiny table at the far end of the restaurant, threw two menus at it and disappeared immediately. The menu was in German only and we did not even have time to ask if there was an English menu. Then we just sat and waited. We thought a waiter would come as is customary to ask what we wanted to drink and then we could get information about the dishes. But that did not happen. We were completely ignored. This is a small restaurant and A waiter passed by us several times and saw that we were not looking at the menu but waiting. But although we tried to draw his attention he just ignored it. We waited exactly 18 minutes without anyone approaching us to ask anything, explain, offer a drink, or take an order. Although there was no pressure on the waiters and they talked at length and joked with other table sitters, we were treated as if we did not exist. Finally, having no choice, we got up and walked towards the exit. The two waiters saw us go out. The one who greeted us at first just watched us walk by and did not ask or say anything. Act like someone who just does not care. So, the review here is about poor human attitude and terrible service. We cannot, of course, testify to the quality of food. For lack of any other probable reason, we think that this humiliating treatment of us was simply because we do not speak German. And that was very unusual. During all these two weeks we dined dinner and lunch in many different restaurants in the area, and most of the time we received sympathetic treatment, friendly and efficient service, and excellent food. And yes, most of the time the menus are in English too. In most cases we did not book in advance and yet we hardly had to wait for a table and service. Our accumulated impressions are particularly good which is why the attitude here was so surprising and so outrageous. We will never go back. And we recommend everyone, especially those who are not local and do not speak German, stay away from this place."
