"12:30 at night, hungry...a good kebab would be perfect. Lots of reviews saying Sofra II is the best kebab in Mainz...so excited then so disappointed...I wonder if anyone here has tried a real kebab? Arriving at the restaurant, 30 minutes before they were due to close, and the place is acting like it's already closed. No meat on the rotating grills, just leftovers cut up in a tub. A big lump of white bread (pitta? which they toasted for 30 seconds (not enough to heat and then cold meat, cold sauerkraut and cold salad added. If you want to close at 12pm, just close. Don't say you're open until 1am then not be ready to serve fresh food. The result? A cold kebab. The meat is processed so you have no idea what's in it. Not real pieces of lamb. The yoghurt sauce comes from a big plastic tub bought from a wholesaler. No fries available. No explanation offered, but clear the frier was switched off ready to shut for the night and switching it on for a customer would be terrible! All in all, this was a poor experience. During the day I imagine the food would be hot. However the time of day does not affect the quality of the ingredients. Come on Mainz, raise your standards. Restaurants can do a lot better than this!"
