"We love Sushi and after a week of heavy German food we were eager to have some fresh fish. Hikari Gild Sushi is run by a Vietnamese family and clearly caters to the poor students in town. They offer an all you can eat option at €16 that circles on a conveyor belt or an al-la-carte option that is priced by the color of the plate it comes on. Trouble is that the all you can eat sushi is extremely heavy on the rice which makes the pieces basically taste like starch with a slight fish taste. Also there is hardly any nigiri on the conveyor belt, mostly just filling rolls. The fish quality is below par on the conveyor belt but is clearly better if you order al-la-carte. It gets a little bit better (but also pricier) if you order al la carte as then the rice and fish proportions are more in line with what one would see in Japan but even then the options are rather limited. They consist of tuna, salmon, mackerel, a white fish, fake crab meat, eel and cooked shrimp. So basically the same basic fish selection that most German sushi restaurants offer. There is none of the fish variety that one would see in Japan. Also the rice is not quite authentic. The vinegar in the rice tastes okay but the attendant packs the rice too tight, which, again, is typical for German sushi restaurants. Whoever wrote that this restaurant offers sushi on par with true Japanese sushi must have been rather confused. This is a low end sushi restaurant with mediocre quality and craftsmanship that has very little to do with authentic Japanese sushi but appears to be beloved by students as they can fill up on carbs for under €16. Try another place."
