"If you're ok with paying $10 for a sandwich then this is the place. Nothing out of the ordinary and definitely not a cheap lunch choice. I ordered the chicken croissant but they made it on the counter! That didn't look clean and the soup was reheated in the microwave. I asked for a cup of water and the water was from the sink. They have nice staff but could use an upgrade in clean preparation. Parking is odd too and inside is old looking."

"I just realized I reviewed this place 7 years ago. This establishment is the model of excellence and consistency. Every sandwich I've ever eaten here has been delicious. I think I've eaten my way through about 2/3 of the menu. Their breads are delicious. The meats are cut fresh while you watch. They have some vegetable options that you'll rarely find at other places, like sprouts, mushrooms, three different kinds of peppers, etc.The chicken salad is a particular favorite of mine now. I don't like chicken salad that has a lot of fruit or other sweetness to it. The chicken salad that they make here at the Great Outdoorsman is mildly savory and contains no fruit that I can find, so no sweet taste. It is extraordinarily delicious.Oh jeez, I almost forgot the chicken poblano soup. IT'S STUPENDOUS!My old review from 7 years ago. Every word still true --A great sandwich shop. The outdoorsman is delicious. They have sprouts! All sub's can be ordered hot or cold. Great prices. Staff is excellent. I have no criticisms. It's an all-time favorite of mine."

"Firdt off, I miss the old location next door. It had a much more indie feel. The new location feels sterile and corporate. It could easily have been a burger king a starbucks or mcdonalds if it werent for the signage. The sandwiches havr quite a bit less meat on them than before and somehow manage to be less substantial than even the ones at subway which is crazy. Secondly, they built a whole new building so presumably they own the property. Usually that means the food is a great value with no landlord taking a cut, but not the case. Very small sandwiches with basically nothing on them. The deli meat is also pretty much flavorless. Pretty strange. Used to go here quite a bit in the 2010s at the old location, now a coffee place, but I think great outdoors has run its course. The sandwiches used to be more substantial. But in dfw I dont think there has ever been a consistently good submarine sandwich shop. Quiznos was briefly amazing, jersey mikes was also briefly amazing but they all went downhill fast. So great outdoors is no exception. Another bland forgettable sandwich. Probably the last time I come here for at least five years."

"Best Turkey Sandwich!. I love The Great Outdoors Sub shop! I have been eating there for years and I still order the same thing! #8 on white, with just tomatoes, extra onions, and mayo. The sandwiches are always fresh and they make them fast! I hardly ever end up waiting in a line because of the assembly line type of setup they have. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great sandwich!"

"UPDATE March 2022: We were in the mood for soup and a sandwich today. The service was excellent and the food was even better. There were many dine-in customers and several take-out orders while we were there. I posted some new photos of customers enjoying their meals. Surprisingly, it had been 13 months since our last visit, just after the terrible ice storm in February 2021. We will try to come back sooner next time. UPDATE February 2021: The restaurant has reopened after the devastating ice storm in February. Our lunch visit was on the first day they reopened after being closed for a week. It was still a bit chilly to eat outside on the patio, so we opted for indoor seating. They are still following safety protocols for virus mitigation, making it a safe place to eat. Most customers were opting for takeout orders. First visit May 2020: They are now open during the current health crisis with limited indoor seating. There is a nice shade tree on the patio for outdoor dining. It was a great first impression for both this location and the chain. We had never eaten here before and were impressed by the shields in place between the customers and the counter, as well as the rail that ensured social distancing when placing orders.
