"I've driven by Mackie's a million times in recent years and I was always put off by the luke-warm reviews and the fact that they had a buffet. Today I overcame my reservations and decided to try it for lunch. This place is really sizeable with two large dining rooms, separated by the salad bar/hot bar/dessert bar/bread bar. There are lots of standard steak, seafood, ribs, chicken type entrees on the menu, but I went with the 5 oz sirloin lunch special that included all the bars. I'm not too big on buffets, but I have to say that Mackie's was very nicely set up, very clean, very fresh and I liked everything I had salad and dessert wise. I had a cup of clam chowder, which probably came from a can and I would describe as comparable to something like you'd get from Progresso at the grocery store. The steak was a very nice piece of meat, no fat, and cooked as I asked. The baked potato was done just right too. For about $10, this was a heck of a lot of really good food! The place was very clean and my server, Gail, did a terrific job of being friendly, cordial and she kept my coffee cup full. No, it's not a fancy steakhouse with white table cloths, etc--but if you're on a budget and you want a good hot meal, you could do a lot worse than this. I had no complaints and I would certainly go back."
