"The experience was authentic. Most of the people standing outside/inside waiting for their chicken were loyal, diehard Crown Fried Chicken fans. When asked if this is the best chicken in Newport News, without hesitation, everyone said yes. The guy at the register was kind, funny, and with a thick accent said, I gave you extra piece so you come back, okay!, Knowing it was my first time EVER eating Crown Fried Chicken. As I open up the 8 piece and both sides (Mac n cheese/collard greens)... Yo... The disappointment was real. For being as busy as it was, the chicken was chewy, dry, not hot, and some pieces were straight up hard from being over-fried. The flavor/seasoning was super okay. As for the sides... Mac n cheese tasted like it came from riverside hospital, BUT the collards were bomb! It was truly difficult giving 3 stars to such a highly regarded local chicken joint."
