"We went here many years ago before the renovation. It was pretty tight and aside from dining in, they sold filipino sweets/kakanins. Last year, some of my family tried the place and raved about it. Happily surprised about the changes. It is now brighter like the other Kabayans we tried (on Roosevelt Ave and East Meadow, LI), although their decor is more casual. But, food-wise, this smaller place did the best. Kare-kare had a good amount of oxtail, veggies and had tripe. Sauce is a bit thick but good. Sizzling squid had a sweet sauce but being on the sizzling plate, it got a caramelized/smoky taste. Ginataang puso ng saging (banana blossoms in coconut milk) was very good. Had pieces of pork and shrimp in it but even the veggie on it's own was delicious. Supposed to be spicy but we asked for it mild. Daing na bangus (fried milkfish) was a pretty good size and priced better compared to some places along Roosevelt Ave. Lechon Kawali was a bit fatty and Bicol express pork was not as spicy as we liked but still good. Really enjoyed my Halo-halo with that big scoop of ube ice cream, good amount of sweet ingredients and just enough shaved ice. (Last year, the East meadow location had shredded flan and so much ice). The staff is very friendly. So much on the menu to try so we will surely return."
