"I was impressed with the décor from the outside of the place. It looks very chic and the mini amphitheater with a playing band was a nice touch. Unfortunately from there it was mainly downhill. While the restaurant looks ultra modern most of the patrons are about seventy or older, I certainly have no problem with elderly people but it definitely takes away from the restaurant being hip. We actually had to ask several times for bread, and when it finally came it was like a lot of the other food at the restaurant, a lot of flash but the actual food fizzled. The bread was unique and had some kind of cranberries in it; however, it was just okay at best. We then had the nine dollar chopped salad, realize salads are not included with any meals at this restaurant, and it was again just okay. One notable problem was the gnats that were flying around us, since the restaurant keeps the bar area open. This definitely dampened our experience and no restaurant, especially a pricey one like this, should have bugs flying around your food! My actual meal arrived and despite the waiter’s recommendation it was very dry and dull. Finally, the desert, the Mississippi Mud Pie was the only standout of the night. But at these kind of prices everything should standout. Not to mention the Mud Pie was nine bucks, not exactly cheap. So at the end of the day Burt Max’s is all about sizzle but the substance, the actual food is not that great and it is pricey. One could do a lot better going to the Cheesecake Factory, save some money in the process, have less of a wait, be with a younger, hipper crowd, and most importantly have much better food. Boca and Delray are already flooded with restaurants, and now the other restaurants in the shopping center have opened up. As it has been said, “All that glitters is not gold,” and this certainly applies to Max’s. I would say don’t get suckered in by the atmosphere; it will leave you with a bad taste in your mouth at the end of the day!"
