"I found myself in Norfolk, on the hunt for good ole fashioned ice cream. I was excited to try Doumar’s, but wish I hadn’t. Upon entering I was met with odd stares and an overwhelming sense that this place is not for people like me. Service and staff left much to be desired. The cashier would not make eye contact with me or speak at all. It was quite awkward. The initial silence prompted me to announce to him that “I haven’t been before and would like ice cream”, but that didn’t have any impact on his demeanor. I received my ice cream reluctantly? After observing the food preparation not a glove in sight and many points of cross contamination. I ordered a chocolate double scoop, but it was the same size as the single scoop my friend ordered, and with an odd undertone of banana. Quite odd. It was reminiscent of the cheap ice cream in the white paper cups with the wooden spoon. Certainly NOT homemade. Additionally, while I understand the atmosphere is supposed to inspire feelings of Nostalgia, it is in dire need of renovation. Disappointed is an understatement. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place."
