"we were there at the Thanksgiving evening so was understandably very busy. we sat at a nice 4-top table right away. kellner was very busy, but attentive and cheerful anyway. one of us had the TGiving-Special and an ordered from the menu. In both cases, eating was very disappointing – the truthahn was cut by a rolled truthahnbread, the kartoffels were not homemade, the walleye was extremely fishy and muddy and had a strange white sauce on it, the salat dressing tasted directly from the bottle of Italian. even the baguette was unacceptable, especially when you consider that we were in a French bakery – it was soft, spicy and served with salted butter. the baked looked delicious, but was emptied and tasted as if it had been too long on the refrigerator. all in all it was a very disappointing meal. restaurant is one and done for us."

"It was the first time I was here. Food was fantastic. They had great wine deals. Service was good. The table we were at was very small and I was pinned in near the door. I'm Would have liked a little more room but all in all a great meal. Highly recommend"

"My burgundy sauce was almost like a hardening Carmel, really tacky. Not sure if that’s right. I was not super impressed by that. I was impressed with the unique items that aren’t usually around Des Moines, like escargot and oysters. The atmosphere is like copper cop and Edison light bulb. My service was rude to us for not eating quick enough and splitting a reservations/party’s bill, but would you really expect different from 17 young adults? I would eat here again anyhow."

"excellent food and service! there before the rolling stones concert and the staff ensured that we were on time. great place and we will be back! rick the owner is a wonderful guy, I left my credit card mistakenly and couldn't get back because he was at the concert, rick was friendly enough to drop it in my hotel when I was gone the next day early!"

"Food and ambiance exceeded expectations! Service was surprisingly horrible for fine dining establishment. Very disappointed in overall experience (for the price and expectations), mostly due to poor service. It was clear waitstaff were overwhelmed. Took 30+min to get drinks after being seated and over an hour to order dinner after being seated. A staff member eventually came to collect our menus (we were happy to have someone…anyone…check on us), but we had to decline because…we had not yet ordered. We were celebrating a birthday and were told to save room for a special birthday dessert upon being seated, however it was completely forgotten by the staff later. We were so frustrated by dessert time that we were no longer interested in it anyway…just wanted to leave. This was supposed to be a highlight of the trip (and food/ambiance were excellent), but it was a great disappointment. We see many reviews say the same, so hopefully management will listen and make some changes if they want to maintain patronage! I can’t recommend Cress based on the experience, especially if you are looking to celebrate one of your special occasions."

"I am french and this restaurant is a unique place to find real fine French cuisine for a very fair price. also the owners are friendly and welcoming. no fear of the situation (a small area in a market under a railway bridge), because the experience it is worth definitiw. to freeze the people: if they have experience in so-called overpriced French restaurants in ny terrible, they go to this restaurant and they will have a redeeming breath of the air."

"Hidden gem! I recommend everything we ordered. Escargot: 5/5. Delicious, and we used the baguette slices to dip in the extra garlic butter sauce. Italian benedict: 5/5. Eggs benny w prosciutto. The eggs were perfectly runny, the potatoes were amazing, and the jam included is homemade. Mussels and fries: 5/5. So simple yet so great. Tasty sauce and well-seasoned fries. Nutella banana crepe: Great. Generous with the Nutella and bananas. Service was 5/5! There are only 4 tables outside and the tables were more than 6 feet apart so I felt very safe dining here. Will be back to try the French onion soup! Park on the neighboring streets but be sure to read the signs carefully!"

"The waitstaff was distracted. Missed a few opportunities for an increased tip. Had to ask for water several times for no one asked us if we would like a second bottle of sparkling water. Slow with cocktail wine service. Took so long, the wine I ordered to pair with the salad course, came with the entre I would have chosen a different wine to pair with entre. The food was good, I really would have expected more out of the staff, in such a long standing establishment."

"I’ve come here many times before and have always had an enjoyable experience. However this visit was drastically different. The only reason I’m giving two stars is being our server was very friendly and accommodating. Other than that it was a miserable experience. Bread took 30 mins to come to our table, half our drinks didn’t arrive at the same time, the main course came out cold and there were missing items. The cocktails were also disappointing. I would stick to the bottled wine. I’ll definitely try somewhere new next time I eat at Santana Row."

"the personal was great. they were very busy and seemed to be shorthanded, but it was good to handle. that was so. the calamari was good, but was not freshly prepared. the Trufle-Pommes were great. I had the mahi mahi and it seemed like it was frozen before, but the waitress said it was fresh when I ordered. either it was considered. my wife had the lamb stew. it was pretty good and better than the fish. the prices were reasonable."

"Booked an early dinner, wanted to check this place out for a while. Having read some of the reviews, I was a little reluctant, but we were promptly seated. Ordered drinks, the bar was a little slow, but nothing to complain about. My wife ordered the steak salad, which was good. I ordered the prime burger and sweet potato fries and a salad. Burger was really good, two patties cooked to order, they brought fries instead of the sweets, but they corrected the mistake and the sweet potato fries were tasty. Would have been better hot. The salad was fresh with two big strips of bacon. Overall the food, service and ambiance of the restaurant was between fair and good. Might give them another shot, but wouldn't rush back."

"This is a very tough review to write because the place is so beautiful and in a perfect location. I desperately wanted it to succeed. This was my second visit and, while my first was not perfect, the place was still new at the time. This time however, the experience was a disaster. We arrived promptly for our reservation, which was a birthday celebration for my 22-year old daughter. For starters, we were the only table in the restaurant, so everything I am about to write occurred in a room that was empty on a weekend. The food took almost 45 minutes to be served. During that time, the waiter and hostess never came over to apologize for the delay or even offer us more bread or drinks. What became infuriating was when the food DID finally arrive, after multiple inquiries with the waiter and hostess, it was cold. AND, it was not served as the same time, so some of the guests had to wait an additional 10 minutes for their food. By the time we were all served, it almost didn't matter that the portions were small and salty. The damage was done and our intent was simply to finish our meal and leave. It was terrible to see a failure on such a massive scale. I feel terrible for the owners and workers here because the ambiance was so wonderful. However, I will never return."

"Food is just a step or two above mediocre. The rolls were pretty poor, I assume one of those big batch frozen varieties. The warm bacon dressing on the spinach salad had a negligible amount, if any, of bacon, and I think it was also a bottled dressing – tasted like Wishbone or Kraft Italian. The pork with bordelaise sauce was good, very tender, but I’m not sure it was a true bordelaise sauce. Honestly, not sure how this place gets such good reviews, because if this is what you received in a restaurant, you would be very unhappy. Don’t think I would ever order from Instead of Flowers for anyone……"

"On Valentine's Day, we arrived in Montreal late in the afternoon and realized we had forgotten to make a reservation for dinner. We decided to dine at Le Chat Noir since it was conveniently located near our hotel. The restaurant's atmosphere was lovely, blending the charm of an old building with modern decor. We opted for the Table d'Hote and were delighted with our meal, savoring every bite. The service was exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff. While the restaurant wasn't very busy, we wondered why more people hadn't discovered it yet. We plan to return for another dining experience to explore more menu options and see if the restaurant has gained more popularity."

"The food is suffering too much from cost controls. For example, my family’s favorite, the French toast, no longer comes with real maple syrup (it is clearly corn syrup—can’t fool a Canadian). There is less whipped cream and sometimes there is less compote. I appreciate that they're trying to keep prices down (though the misleadingly named “living wage surcharge” keeps rising)—but I would rather pay more to get the formerly excellent “real thing,” and just eat there less often."
