"Good food in a modern Afghan restaurant restaurantWhat can you say that has yet to be told about Sami's Kabab House? It is one of the best Afghan restaurants in Queens. Last year we went to their LIC location, but the Astoria location is by far the better of the two. It was a rainy day when we arrived. We had just been to their Little Flower Cafe in the morning. By the time we got to Sami's, it was pelting rain. From the outside, they do not look like a traditional Afghan Cafe. In fact, that is the case inside the restaurant as well. They have a very modern appearance with a few artifacts, including carpets on the walls. That was a little disappointing from an aesthetic perspective, but the considerable dining area offers a very flexible seating arrangement, and it was good to be indoors. Sadly, our waiter was not on his game when we placed our order. Even though it was quiet, he took some time to arrive. By then, we had figured out the menu and were hungry. Afghan dishes can be very similar to Indian dishes. We ordered a lamb tika kabab, korma, and Afghan tea, amongst other traditional Afghan starters listed on the check. -too detailed to describe. Overall the dishes were huge and satisfying, and we took some leftovers home. On balance, even though the service was lacking and we were a little disappointed with how modern the restaurant is, we would still say they are a solid recommendation. I would certainly return for another meal."
