"I have visited Esperanza multiple times, sometimes just for drinks with my husband. However, this time I made a reservation to celebrate my friend's birthday, as it was her first time there. The food was okay, but our experience was marred by the hostess, who made us feel discriminated against. When she tried to seat us right by the entrance, we asked for a table farther away from the constant flow of guests coming in. Despite there being several open tables, she insisted they were reserved for larger groups. Even on a quiet Tuesday night, these tables remained empty. When we asked to split the table due to limited space, she seemed displeased and had to consult with the managers. Eventually, a manager agreed to our request, but the hostess was unwelcoming when she returned. The small table size made it difficult to enjoy our food, as dishes arrived one by one and felt cramped. When we asked for an extra table, the hostess's response made us feel unwelcome. As a local and paying customer, I felt our requests were reasonable, but we were left feeling discriminated against. Our experience was unpleasant, and I will not be returning to or recommending Esperanza to others. It is disappointing that in this neighborhood, not fitting a certain profile can result in disrespect. I urge the owner or manager to provide training to the hostess on how to treat all guests with respect, regardless of their background. Our requests were reasonable, and she should prioritize her work over personal distractions with her cellphone. The current treatment of customers like us is damaging to the restaurant's reputation."

"I have been coming to Toca madera for years and love the place. We were about 6 min pass the 15 min grace period as la traffic is miserable. Receptionist at the front was not willing to work with us and had to ask for the manager to get seated inside. After talking to the manager and for 15 min he finally said we can sit inside for only one hour or outside and we won’t have time restriction so we chose outside. The waitress was nice and proceeded to take out orders. The outside seating is on the public sidewalk which means anyone or anything can walk right by you. After about 30 min, a homeless woman with a cart stops at our table grabs a drink from the table and says she is gonna stab me in the neck and cut of my you know what. Screaming all types of things at us, she then begins to reach in her bag so I get up from my seat just in case she tries to pull something out that way I’m Prepared. I tell the homeless woman to back up and keep it moving while she is still talking nasty things. During this time I’m calling for security and no one shows up. The entire outside seating is looking at us in disbelief of what is goin on. By time time I get her to finally move away from the us, security calmly comes and does nothing, literally shrug it off like this type of harassment happens often. The waitress and bud boys are in shock and they themselves say this type of stuff happens all the time. The manager then comes out and comps us a desert and drink which was kind but not nearly enough for what we had just experienced. 30 min later the woman returns and does the same thing, again I just can’t believe they are allowing these homeless to come and harass the diner. After paying close to $600 for our meal, and being utterly disgusted with what went down at my anniversary dinner with my wife, we decided to leave. I am a born and raised la native and never in my whole life have I been approached and threatened like that by anyone let along a homeless woman. Toca do better!"
