"I have eaten at The Palm many times in the past, when I used to live in Chicago. The food and service were always excellent. Sadly, when I went back recently, this was not the case. We had a long wait for drinks and even longer for our food (about an hour). The server and a manager did a great job of helping me select a wine, but everything took too long to come out. The most disappointing part were the steaks. While they came out properly cooked, all you could taste was the salt. This was particularly frustrating because I had spoken with the server at length about ensuring that only a very little bit of salt was used. Over-salting was never a problem in the past (although it's been years since I've eaten there). They re-made the steak with no salt at all, leaving me to add a little at the table. The bacon appetizer was good, although I thought that the 1927 sauce didn't pair well. I had the creamed spinach side, which was ok but not really good. It used to be better. We were celebrating my birthday, which we let them know ahead of time, but they didn't do anything at all to acknowledge it. Overall, my favorite steak house in Chicago has become just another steak place, with average food, too much salt and prices that are too high. It's a shame that they had to change."
