Savory mushrooms sautéed to perfection, served with fresh herbs and a hint of garlic.

"What a great place on the other side of Elizabeth, NJ on the border of Roselle Park. I used Google and looked for a place near Kean University. I recommend parking on the side street for easy access when leaving and/or parking. I figured I 'd keep it simple and order my usual 'safe bets: ' horchata and tacos (specifically Taquiza el Portal, which are 10 assorted tacos with awesome sides). Keep in mind the food was just for me. They use corn tortillas, which always wins me over and they keep it simple: onions and cilantro (see pics). All of the meats were flavorful, not too salty and not dry. I took home about 3 pounds of leftovers, which tasted great the next day. The mango cake was different. Part hybrid cake and mango custard top. Definitely recommend for a date night, casual eats, or just being in the mood for great Mexican cuisine. I 'll be back for sure!"

"When the call for tacos arises from within, I answer! Stopped in on a random day during lunch time after a quick Google search for nearby tacos (the real stuff). *Beware, not many parking spaces those that are available have specific days/times for street cleaning which means you’ll be asking for a ticket as you enjoy your meal. The items chosen were of course tacos, mine the pescatarian version. While the menu was long very inclusive- I think it was a bit too much for me. I like a more simple style menu that includes appetizers and entrees in an easy to read format… Nonetheless, this did not take too much away from the dining experience for me because I already knew what I wanted. You’re pretty much automatically served chips and the request was made for a small guacamole to add. Unfortunately that requested was fulfilled with guacamole topped with cheese…Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking the forward thinking. But in these days times I like the option of requesting dairy/toppings. There’s plenty of dietary restrictions which often turn people away from eating out, but I also think there’s plenty of room to a accommodate many of those restrictions simply by offering buildable dishes allowing patrons to build them based on their preferences. I digress…The entrees that were ordered (birria shrimp tacos) didn’t come out too quick, were hot with noticeable steam, very colorful. Unfortunately, they lacked seasoning- salt specifically. I appreciated the freshness of the dish, ingredients, and presentation… but what is good food without seasoning? Is it still good??I need my senses I awakened. Not only do I want to taste the food, I want to fully indulge in the experience. Everything else was great-our waitress was attentive and the atmosphere felt homey. I just needed the seasoning! ??"

"This was our second visit to the restaurant and the food was consistently fantastic! The chilaquiles were amazing once again. Even my picky daughter enjoyed them. We sat under the tent and stayed warm. The staff did a great job and were very attentive. We will definitely be returning!"

"The ambiance of the restaurant is cozy, very elegant place. The red sangria is really good, but I was a little disappointed with the Paella. It was good but it lacked that distinct seafood flavor which makes a Paella a Paella. The waiters were very courteous and the service over all was very good. I'd definitely go back, perhaps order something different. Margaritas on the rocks were awesome."

"I have been coming to Seaside in the summer my entire life. My family orders from other Mexican inspired restaurants in the area and for years I have been disappointed with their food. Monte 's is a blessing. The moment I stepped foot inside to pick up my food I could tell this place was authentic. The food followed through. My tinga tostadas were one of my favorite meals I have eaten in months. They were absolutely up to the highest quality bar I have for comparison. The quesadillas were also outstanding. The veggie was delicious, though my uncle complained that the shrimp one did not have enough shrimp in it. The tacos all had good tortillas. The carnitas tasted good, it had a full flavor to it. The chicken in the tacos was dry, but the provided sauces were good. You can tell the chips are made in-house. They were very good. The guac was smoother than I expected. My family wanted empanadas. They were fine, but I didn 't expect anything special on that front from a Mexican place. On the whole this was not the best Mexican food I have ever eaten, but it so far surpasses its competition and does certain things such as the tostadas, quesadillas, and chips well enough that I am giving it 5 stars. I am ashamed it took me this long to discover Monte 's in Seaside."

"Really wanted to like this place but there were too many glaring errors to give it more than 3 stars. Waited more than 30 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. Seemed to be understaffed. Lots of tables looking for their server and often there was nobody on the floor. Grilled octopus was still raw in spots. Escargots served without bread. The paella was decent but they do charge $10 to share it. Maybe we just caught them on an off night."

"I was pleasantly surprised to find this fantastic restaurant open on New Year's Day! I was even more surprised to see that they had a special zucchini spaghetti dish, which was delicious! And their panna cotta was amazing too!"

"First time dining here and won't be the last. We had a variety of dishes to share from appetizers, small plates to entrees. Definitely trying the paella next time. Favorites were meat and cheese charcuterie board (which was pricier than menu stated , cauliflower, the potatoes with egg, shrimp in garlic chili oil with bread, brussel sprouts and the ham croquettes to name a few. A few mixed reviews on the lamb meatballs, which needed a touch of salt or more seasoning, but friends liked the sauce. Bacon wrapped in chicken was okay. Cocktail menu was fabulous! Great atmosphere!"

"We were three adults with two (nicely dressed and well mannered) kids at 5 in the evening on a Sunday. The restaurant was 1/2 empty and the rude hostess shoved us at a tall bar table in between a service station and the kitchen door. After asking someone other than the hostess were moved to a regular table. The waitstaff was either overwhelmed or just terribly trained. Service took forever, orders were wrong, and the music was unnecessarily loud. BBQ brisket tasted like it was pounded with a mallet and soaked in liquid smoke. The one good thing I can say about this place is that the onion rings were incredible."
