"Goby's is a very different atmosphere from Plums, even though the two establishments are practically right next door to each other on Randolph and Snelling. Goby's is much more relaxed and casual, and has blue collar friendly prices. The food quality and drink selections are nothing to write home about, but for the prices they charge, Goby's is an exceedingly good value. The establishment is kept very clean most of the time, and now that smoking is not allowed indoors, the terrible air quality of the old days is no longer an issue and believe me, even as a smoker myself, it used to get pretty bad in there. The only major complaint about Goby's would have to be the abysmal service there. The wait staff, when they have servers on duty, are OK but can only serve customers as quickly as the bartenders are willing to work, and most of the bartenders at Goby's appear to be more interested in watching TV, chatting on their cell phones or gossiping with their buddies than in doing their jobs. Worse yet, even the politest efforts to get something resembling customer service are greeted with an attitude that makes me wonder why the manager (who is there quite often) allows them to stay employed. If you don't mind substandard service, though, Goby's is a very good place to go. The drinks are reasonably priced, and the food is quite excellent for what they charge. If the service would improve, Goby's could be one of the top rated neighborhood bars in the Cities."
