"This place was excellent for us. The server was nice and she was working hard to satisfy her customers. They probably need more staff. There is free parking on the premises and the food did not disappoint. The Chips and Salsa was fantastic (which is my favorite thing at Mexican restaurants) and our dishes were excellent/fulfilling. The food was so good that we contemplated returning there to eat on a 3 day road trip."

"This location is much better than the one closer to my house. I've had a recurring issue at the other location with the cheese not being melted in the cheese enchiladas, but that was not a problem here. The crispy relleno I had as part of the combo I ordered was a bit over done/lightly burnt but I still ate it so it obviously wasn't horrible lol. Everything else was delicious. Staff at this location is as great as at the other. The restaurant itself isn't as nice but the better food makes up for it. We'll definitely keep driving the extra mile to come here instead."

"Always excellent food and service. The staff is wonderful. It's our go to Mexican restaurant. We have been going there for over 20 years. They have the best enchiladas with the dark mole. Enchiladas with mole are not on the list of recommended items but I highly recommend that. Their guacamole is excellent too but without the cilantro. We don't like cilantro which is why I wrote that. If you like cilantro it's not an issue."

"So I snuck away to have lunch with my coworkers. A group of 8 of us went. We actually called and informed them we would be arriving being that this was our lunch break. When arriving they actually had a table set up for us. We all ordered from the lunch menu. It included an entree and a drink. I personally had the chimichanga and a small strawberry margarita. It took a while for us to get our order. My chimichanga was blah....was heavily filled with rice and beans. To be honest everyone agreed the food was not hitting but we truly enjoyed ourselves. I enjoyed the company I was with way more than the food. Would I go back....not intentionally.....but if I can get another quick get away with my team...I would.I will say the margaritas are good."

"Don Carmelo’s has been on our list of places to try for quite some time and we weren’t disappointed. All of the other reviews about how great the service is are totally true. There was a bit of a wait when we arrived around 7pm. We were told there would be a 15-25 minute wait which was fine as we were cool with having a drink at the bar. While seated in the bar area, someone came over to see if we wanted some chips. Nice touch. The wait ended up being closer to 45 minutes, but several people came over to tell us they were just waiting for the table to pay their check and that they hadn’t forgotten us. The food was excellent. The chips came with three kinds of salsa. One was better than the next. My husband had the mussels appetizer from the specials menu and the sauce had great flavor. I had the short rib tacos also off the specials menu and they were fantastic. My husband also enjoyed his entrée. The dessert selection was great. We tried the dessert sampler which is a great option. Several people continuously checked on us to make sure everything was okay and the service was very prompt. We didn’t wait for anything. The only thing I didn’t love was the rice. I felt it could have used more flavor. We will be back for sure."

"Regrettably this is the lowest rating I have given out for any dine in experience.To start off this restaurant is 95% self service with the only exception being that they will bring the food to you. Which would be acceptable except that they ask for a tip prior to knowing that it is mostly self service. You will have to take the chips and salsa to your own table and will have to put away your plates when you are done eating.I was surprised with the quality of the tortilla chips that are on the house and that was the climax of my experience. It set my expectations much higher than what I was about to experience.The food , a Steak Torta -The food was ready in less than five minutes which was surprisingly quick. Upon arrival I quickly noticed that the bread to meat ratio was disappointing. After a few bites my taste buds were unamused. The meat was soft but lacked seasoning and salt. None of the other ingredients tasted in sync and I believe the fault lies with the bread. I wish I took a picture but the amount of bread to meat ratio was ridiculous, especially with a 13$ pretax) amount. This is not the correct bread type for a torta…. I believe changing the bread and actually toasting both sides of each piece would remedy most of the issues with this experience.The customer service was acceptable and our hostess was friendly."

"Fresh Flour Tortillas Good Strawberry Ritas!. The above is the only thing good I can say about this restaurant. The strawberry margaritas on the rocks are superb and the fresh flour tortillas are just like abuelo made! I can't say much for their main menu items but the lunch prices are a good deal for the bucks."

"I believe this restaurant has been here for some time now as I drive by it all the time when heading down San Leandro Blvd between San Leandro and Oakland. So I finally dropped in for a visit and a bite and so glad I did. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all fabulous and incredibly affordable. My favorites are the shrimp and egg breakfast burrito, chicken fajitas burrito and the Bandera (from the specials menu). The decor is colorful and lively and the service makes you feel right at home. In fact, I'm wrapping up breakfast at the restaurant and writing this review as we speak!"
