"Shiraz Restaurant first started in Glendale many years ago. Since that time, the ever popular eatery that served the community exceptional Persian cuisine opened a second location in the bustling community of Sherman Oaks, which still remains today as successful as ever. Offering some of the valley’s most exceptional Iranian cuisine, this restaurant opens its doors to all who appreciate a touch of the Middle East while maintaining traditional and classic roots throughout each dish. Inside, an elegant dining room invites visitors in for a meal they’ll not soon forget. From kebabs to salads to various rice dishes and other favorites, there is something to please everyone at this friendly and inviting establishment. We were seated in the relaxing enclosed patio complete with flowing water from a nearby fountain, earth-toned stucco walls, and lots of natural light pouring in from street side windows. A vessel of iced water was presented to us, as well as a plate of onion, basil and radishes and a basket of flat bread to accompany our upcoming meal. I chose the Albaloo Polo, which is a popular rice dish encompassing sweetened and soured cherries served with a chicken kebab (or lamb shank if you prefer. My husband and I adore the rice in Persian dishes due to the flavorful and non-starchy taste unlike other rice offerings. It is literally as light as air. The cherries in this selection add zing and sweetness to the meal, while the chicken kebab I chose to accompany it made the flavors in this selection a filling and satisfactory experience. The visual presentation of this dish was vibrant in color, and flavorsome on so many levels. My husband ordered the Koobideh of Beef, which is ground beef mixed with specific spices, then broiled on skewers before being added to a plate of saffron and white Iranian rice and a grilled tomato. A side of sliced oranges was also brought to us to enjoy after we finished our meal. Also available for catering special events, Shiraz offers an extensive menu to suit most every occasion. The Shiraz staff is ready to cater to whatever special occasion you are ready to celebrate.
