"Haven’t been to the Vault in a while but it use to be one of our favourites. Tonight however was not so good. They no longer offer a bread and butter basket to start, how cheap… they want $1.50 for it. Times must be tough...if you have to buy the usual complimentary stuff. The dish which was my favourite Chicken with the mushroom goat cheese sauce is no more. Replaced with a chicken olive tapenade dish, not my cup of tea. Went for the braised short ribs got a lot of grizzle but otherwise the beef was cooked okay. The mashed potatoes that use to have a roasted garlic flavour were ruined with a rosemary/thyme/aka dirt flavour to my tastebuds. The veggies were roasted well but there was a weird sweeter fruity like beet sauce under them which just seemed to be an odd sauce to add to the beef gravy. The waitress offered to get something else but to be honest the menu seemed lacking to me and more pub like with fish and chip and burger options. We ate it, we didn’t like it and overall found the new menu disappointing. My husband ordered steak and prawns and he also found the potatoes tasting funky/ herby/dirt like. His prawns he was disappointed were steamed and contaminated by the flavours of the beet juice swirl as well, he tried to wipe it off but still meh. The food just was not our style and we missed the garlicky cheesy creamy flavours we were use to. So if you like herby beet like flavours this is the place for you! When we looked around we noticed a shift in the clientele as well. It seems what use to be a lively, band playing, martinis flowing, type place we found it to be filled with seniors who did seem to be really enjoying themselves. So our rating would be nicely decorated, nice server, not so good food and just no longer what we like in a restaurant. We won’t be back even with a $16 off coupon. Maybe they are trying to become more of a farm to table style place and be more earthy? Just different and not what we were looking forward to perhaps."
