"I enjoyed my quick lunch today at Avatar 's in Sausalito! I heard from Avatar 's by Marin Magazine 's Best of Marin Restaurants where Avatar 's was presented as the best Vegan / Vegetar restaurant in Marin County. While I'm not vegan or vegetarian, I really enjoy healthy and thoughtfully prepared food as I drove past and saw her signage, I decided to stop for a quick bite. After checking the menu, I quickly discovered that this is not your average Indian restaurant. The dishes are a unique blend of Indian, Mexican, Caribbean and Asian influences. I could not really decide what to order as I order a creature of habit and always the same in Indian cuisine restaurants. I told the friendly female server that I usually order Palak/Saag Paneer and she said they could make it. It was the best and most tasteful playback I had in the bay. I often order from Lotus and ordered the delivery of Bombay Grill and Amber Kitchen. I also order from the Indian Palace sometimes as it is a convenient location on my way to Tiburon. Avatar's version was the best. I ordered it with an average spice level, accompanied by slightly smoked fresh vegetables and Basmati rice. The rice was perfectly boiled and not flavoured with too much saffron, but only enough to get notes of its lively taste. Ashok explained that in her version of the curry does not contain milk or cream and is oil based with bean products. Total wow, a healthier version of the plate that tastes better! Usually Indian restaurants put Curry in an oval shaped plate that makes it appear bigger, so when the plate first arrived with curry and rice on a traditional round plate, I thought it was a smaller preparation, but it was 't and the section was perfect. Ashok also only prepared a Daal Curry for a takeout guest and brought a small sample for me to try it at the next visit. He explained that all dishes are made to order and they do not cook large portions, as many other Indian restaurants do. The curry was also excellent, but I like Spinat Curry about cauliflower/lentil curries (re: creature of habit). I ordered the same dish again to go to dinner. I was surprised that the restaurant was not immediately packed with food and service at 11 on a Friday like other restaurants in the city. Go to Avatar's incredible!"
