"Nice atmosphere excelllent steak!. I had the pleasure of dining at the Capital Grille a few nights ago. I must say that somehow thought I wouldn't like it as it looks like a large chain restaurant. And given its location in Chevy Chase, I figured that it would be just another expensive, overpriced, pretentious restaurant. Outward appearances can be deceiving! I was pleasantly surprised by the comfortable atmosphere, welcoming service, and excellent food. I started with the French onion soup, and my dining companion had the calamari. For mains, we both had the dry aged Porterhouse steak, which was excellent (although the portion size at 24 oz. was too much for me! . Sides were creamed spinach and parmesan truffle fries, which were very good too. Dessert was a luscious crème brûlée and a refreshing key lime pie, neither of which we finished since we were so full. It was a pricey meal, but all in all, we were impressed. I don't have a favorite steakhouse in DC yet one that combines a great atmosphere, excellent service, and outstanding food a place like Keen's in New York City. Most DC steakhouses leave me a bit cold. I'm not sure that the Capital Grille has it all, but if first impressions are any indication, it's worth a return visit. P.S Lunch prices are reasonable with most steaks in the $24 $29 range (including a side dish . Lunch salads and sandwiches are roughly $15 $20."
