"I've always wanted to try this place out, because of the historical history behind it. Started in 1948 as a simple lunch style restaurant with counter seating, serving iconic hamburgers, freshly ground daily. What more could you ask for?Located in Downtown Los Angeles, place was clean and decorated nicely in let's say modern 50's decor, missing was the old time counter, facing the open kitchen, watching the cooks preparing your meal, the waitress, running back and forth, serving the patrons seated at the counter. This place does have a counter with bar stools, but they're located up against a wall, opposite of the kitchen. The restaurant itself was built uniquely on a two level floor plan, small dining area immediately to the front, with stairs leading to the second level, where the kitchen and additional table are located. The outside was a different story, with homeless people wandering out on the sidewalk, a distinct odor slightly filled the air, but I won't tell you what the smell was...you'll thank me later!Looking at the menu while ordering, we knew this was going to be a little pricey, but we were ready for it. When we got the final cost for 3 people, it ran close to $70, roughly about $20 to $24 dollars per person, just depending on what you add on to your burger and sides and drinks that you choose. The burgers were top notch, you can tell the meat was of high quality, freshly grounded, fries and onion rings was good. Everything tasted great, just wished that the burgers were a little larger to satisfy our hunger and to justify the high price. Other items on their menu were breakfast items, chicken, pies and shakes. Employees were extremely nice and helpful.I myself would definitely come back from time to time, but if you're on a budget, or a penny pincher, then this place is probably not the best choice for you."
