"As a self-professed Kimpton junkie, I put a lot of effort into deciding which Miami-area property to stay at on a recent trip. I chose the Surfcomber for its proximity to the beach, and I think that was the best part about this property. There was very little that felt like a Kimpton to me other than seeing the various Kimpton signs throughout the property. The room itself left much to be desired. There was a THICK coat of dust on both end tables, so thick that we could not rub it off easily. The bathroom was, as everyone mentioned, tiny, and the shower was awful. It was hard to adjust the temperature in the shower, and the knob actually came off in my hand the last day. The shower also did not drain, so we had to stand in ankle-deep water every time we showered. There was sand left in it when we were done after we came back from the beach. It was just gross. The blinds did not sufficiently block out the light, so we woke up earlier than planned both nights. There was also nowhere to store anything. This came at the tail of a week-long trip in multiple locations, and I had a full-sized suitcase I had to wedge between the bed and wall. As a Diamond IHG member, I was not offered an upgrade of any sort, and the only amenity I received was free breakfast, which was not actually free because it only counted up to $20, which most entrees were more than, and we had to pay tax and tip separately. (Tip was automatically added. I 've never encountered this at Kimpton before, and even stayed at the Ft. Lauderdale property after and the free breakfast was truly ALL IN. The highlight, though, was the beach. It was the beach, after all. Beyond that, it was average, again not Kimpton standard. We rented an umbrella for $25 and used the two free beach chairs that came with the huge amenity fee charged nightly by the hotel (which felt a little or a waste as we checked in late the first night and left early the second morning . There was drink service, but it was hard to flag them down. The crew was also extremely quick to take the umbrellas down due to the first gust of wind, which I understand, but they were slower to put them up than every other property along the beach. We didn 't use the pool, but it was massively crowded and had a loud DJ when we walked back from the beach. That is probably some people 's thing, but this doesn 't seem like the relax and chill properly if that 's what you 're looking for. The service was fine. I didn 't feel like anyone went beyond the basic standards of care for us. As mentioned, no upgrades based on status were given and no one seemed too concerned when we reported how bad the shower was. Finally, the valet was absurdly slow. It took almost a half hour to get your car, and usually the pull through area in front of the hotel was packed and difficult to navigate. The first time we got our car, we actually had to walk out onto the busy street and get in that way. Not the safest method. All in all, this place only has any good feelings because of its beach location. It definitely does not live up to that Kimpton standard."
