"Absolutely amazing Gem located in the heart of NYC! I struggled to find a sit down breakfast place for a group of 4 so when I came across this place, I of course went straight to the reviews! PLEASE DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED by the reviews!!!! This lovely restaurant has 4.4 stars On Facebook! I ordered the pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon. The pancakes were fluffy and cooked to perfection, the bacon crispy and taste amazing, the eggs were fluffy and delightful. I also had a glass of orange juice that was just how I liked it PULPY which is hard to find! And an Cup of coffee that was served in a glass cup on a saucier. We were greeted by smiles and greetings as soon as we stepped in the door. Definitely a must visit if wanting a good family owned home cooked breakfast!!!"

"Wow! This restaurant was amazing and delightful! My wife, her mom, and I decided to stop here for dinner on our way home from a day at the beach. We love small eateries like this one because of the great customer service and delicious food. There were five of us, both children and adults. We were quickly served our meals, which were delicious and the staff was very friendly. Another customer even paid for our entire meal, which was incredibly sweet! I paid for a few other tables as a pay-it-forward gesture. It's places like these that make America great - people helping each other out. The city is beautiful and the restaurant is lovely. We will definitely be returning!"

"Stopped by after Mass for All saints Day. First time back in many years. Food was good. I tried the macaroni and cheese app and roast beef sandwich platter with gravy fries and wasn't disappointed. My aunt got the grilled ham and cheese. Also good. We liked it. On the other hand I could see how someone would negatively review this place as the service was very incredibly slow and other people who came in after us got served before us and had eaten and left by the time we received our food. Also the bathroom door didn't seem to lock so I was worried about someone walking in opening the door while I was using the bathroom. Bathroom was kind of filthy. Looks like the HVAC system hadn't been maintained or cleaned with the vents in many many years."

"My fiance, whose been to Defonte's many times, took me today for the first time. I had the small roast pork with provolone and hot salad(spicy pickled veggies). He had a small sausage and peppers with mozzarella. It was so good that I ate the entire sandwich in one sitting. I will definitely be going back to try other things from the menu and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to have a delicious hot or cold sandwich."
