"I live and work in the neighbourhood and fit this place a few times a day. I don't know why I didn't try it earlier!? all far exceeded all my expectations, over two visits. that's almost impossible in my book. we started with brunch on Sunday. we ordered the warm chouquettes, the grapefruit brulee, and the gruyere and spring onion scone to begin while we tried to decide on our entrees. the chouquettes were perfect small puffs of pate a choux pastries with powdered sugar and served with the most incredible cherry jam. the grapefruit brulee was an absolute tasty! seasoned by grapefruit with candied demarara sugar, cinnamon and tarragon coated. I'm not sure what I expected when I ordered this, but it was so unique and tasty that I feel that it was something everyone should try! I ordered the scone, even though I was sure I hate her. I am a baked cook and hearty scenes always disappoint me. they are usually too heavy and nobody gets the season right. my man couldn't believe I ordered the scones. After taking one bit, he asked me what I thought. I told him he had to taste it because it was the best scoring I ever tasted that someone else did! it was perfectly easy, and that was spicing on. you have to order it! we thought we had a lot of time to order and enjoy the rest of our meal, but get a text that we had to be in union station to pick a friend within 30 minutes. we informed our server about the hurry and they were beyond the recording! we could still order traitors and they had us at the exact time we had to get out of the door. the next day we went back to get an undisturbed lunch so we could try more. I started with the cavalier king charlie cocktail (dry gin, lemon, blue pea flower, tonic, champagne foam) that was beyond phenomenal! simply the best cocktail I had in portland, in 5 years here. my man has tasted and explained when the color purple has a taste, that is it! so tastes purple. they have an extensive absinthe menu and are very well versed about all asspects of selection and history. my man tried two different sorts and was very satisfied with both selections. we started lunch with the soup du jour and the escargot and button mushroom gratin. both were absolute perfection! for the escape we ordered the pain perdu and the grilled duck sausage ratatouille. both were perfect again! I don't even know what to say, except that while I write that, I think about how soon I can go back there. desserts were also perfectly executed, we tried the riz au lait and the meyer lemon tarte. no matter where I dine, even the best meal times, I have in the rule a little complaining about something, be it service, execution, cocktails, dessert or whatever. there's always something I'll be a teensy bit unhappy. but not here. that are also over two visits. neither my man nor I could come with a single thing that was less than stellar!"
