"Urban Plates, where have you been my whole life!! Great food, great service, great prices! The Steak sandwich is really masterpiece of aromas and textures that deserves a place on the menu in the sky. Now that I have your attention, let me tell you the story of our first visit to Urban Plates. It was a birthday dinner on a Sunday evening with a big party of 30-50 people. The birthday boy arranged with management to reserve a whole section of the dining area for our group. I don't think they really take reservations so it was nice to take us. That said the kitchen and the staff were really at their game. Even if they were completely muddled with orders, our food was delivered to our table in less than ten minutes. Thanks to these guys and Gals for good service. I ordered the steak sandwich with an additional side of Macn cheese and my wife ordered the chicken tong plates. By the way, a comfort eating favorite of her since childhood. We were both very impressed by the quality of food at such a reasonable price. Really an experience for the joy of eating. My wife is very pleased to try the hot chicken at our next visit. Personally, if there was a competition for the best steak sandwich in Pasadena, the chimichurri Steak sandwich at Urban Plates could hit the very popular beef-dip sandwich at the high end of the road directly. Very high quality food for a very reasonable price. Fun Facts: -Urban Plates first location in San Diego opened in 2011. - Founded by Saad Nadhir and John Zagara, the chain currently has only over twenty sites mostly in Southern California. You have plans to expand outside California slowly. - Your website claims that their food is all scratches made with organic ingredients. Use of hormone and antibiotic free grass feed beef, sustainable salmon, and never frozen chicken. So, do yourself a favor and give this amazing place a try soon."

"I love this place, but unfortunately they are completely on the hill and I can no longer recommend it. I ordered cakes since they opened when I live down the street and it is very comfortable. I am mad at myself that this year I ordered a cake for my daughters for the birthday after the last year of the Fiasko, not having the cake available after the order and paying for it a week earlier. When I arrived to get the cake, I was told that they forgot to do it. What? They finally delivered it to the restaurant, but it was so late that most guests had left. After spending $100 on a cake, I had to type the Uber type now. I was desperate this year because I was too much, so I decided to order again this year (beat to me). The cake was so dry and for whatever reason the cake had a strange cream in the middle of the cake. In addition, after the order they called me an hour later to for another $6 for the coloring. They also asked if I wanted to leave a tip for the cake decorator. I had no decorations on the cake, why would they ask? I think it's very sticky that they couldn't eat the $6 or tell me when I ordered it to be extra cost for colored icing. For $82 I got a basic cake without design or flowers etc. It was really terrible, especially the trembling and the evil filling I didn't ask. I recommend Harris Teeter or Giant for a basic cake like what I got. But at least you get a fresh cake that is not dry with strange filling in the middle! Never again. Try to support small local businesses, but they make it hard. Sad it's so much on the hill. It looks like it just doesn't matter to them. I have a picture of a piece of cake and I have no idea why they have a filling in the middle and why so thick. It tasted so nasty. My guests thought it looked really strange and not a person liked it! A waste of $82."
