"Picture the scene Friday night a restaurant in Spartanburg, SC with no customers in it at 6:30 or so in the evening. That was the first sign. Actually there was another couple that walked in as we pulled up. This is a Caribbean/African grocery so of course there is the familiar smell of dried fish and musty yams in the air, a smell some would not be accustomed to but we frequent these types of establishments regularly. That the place is clean and well maintained is a plus, however, the Café side did not have the familiar smell of jerk/brown stew/etc. NO SMELL OF FOOD AT ALL! The second sign. We were waited on by a little older lady that did not seem to have any clue about what was on the menu or how to explain how the sides were priced. Third sign. There was a young lady that came in to pick up a take out order which she had placed 30 minutes beforehand. She was told that the food was ready and the little lady went back to get it 15 minutes pass by and she did not return with the food, so the young lady went back to the kitchen to see what had happened. She was told (she shared with us and the other couple) that they could not find her food. Forth sign. By now we ourselves were about to leave and here comes, I guess the server? with our food. Large portions, I am thinking Cool, redemption for this wait (at least 30 minutes) .... Not even realizing there 's still NO SMELL! Fifth sign. Jerk chicken drier than the dried fish in the grocery side and no fire of jerk. Browned stewed chicken nothing but bones and no stewness . The lady of the other couple, asks is y 'alls cabbage cold? ... I thought it was just mine. Sixth sign. Finally they found the young lady 's food the little lady said someone had put it in the freezer. WHAT!?! Can 't. They gave her the food Cassava Leaf, an African dish which she had tried to get there two weeks prior when she was in town from Raleigh but was told they only had it certain nights she decided to eat it there since she 'd be"
