"I have gone to JJ Astors twice in my life and regretted it both times. The first time, the fish was undercooked so we sent it back. They brought out the same piece of fish after trying to reconcile their first mess up. The second time the fish came out, it again was slimy and undercooked. I made the mistake of giving JJ Astor a second chance. The second time, the food came out extremely undercooked and the waitress was awful. The chicken was slimy and purple on the inside. We ended up trying a couple bites of the chicken but had to send it back due to the scare of getting sick. Our waitress had an attitude the entire time and messed up our drink order multiple times. I ordered an old fashioned but ended up getting a clearly shaken Manhattan. SHAKEN Manhattan. Not only was the drink incorrect but they also broke the golden rule of a Manhattan must always be stirred, not shaken. I also ordered a glass of Pinot Noir; however, I never got my glass of wine. I ended up asking for my glass of wine a second time, but it still never showed up. Finally, we ordered a piece of cheesecake because of how hungry we still were due to the horrible quality of our entrees. We ate about 3 bites of the cheesecake and couldn 't eat anymore. It was dry and unflavorful. I have tasted more moist and flavorful sand on the beach than this cheesecake. The only enjoyable part of dinner was the view over all of Duluth. However, I would highly recommend going up to Enger Tower to get a great view of Duluth instead of paying for an extremely overpriced meal that isn 't even as tasty as McDonalds. I will never go back to JJ Astor ever again as I have never been more disappointed in a restaurant in my life. Never would I ever recommend this horrifying excuse for a nice restaurant to my worst enemy, let alone anyone I actually like. Go at your own risk."

"I 've been here many times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food, and service. Went on 8/19 with my wife and a friend. Had dinner and a couple beers, food and service were both good. The one star review is due to what happened after I got home. It was about an hour after we left, around 8:30pm, my phone rang from an unknown number, and then I got an alert for a voicemail and shortly after, a text message. Both were from Roman at Countryside, who asked me by name to call him back but offered no other details. Very strange...my first thought was that i had left something, maybe my wallet, CC, etc. I called back the number (it was not the phone number listed for Countryside online, I believe it was Roman 's personal number) and Roman answered and explained that after we left, our server had accidentally voided the transaction instead of adding the gratuity and finalizing it properly. As a result, Roman was trying to contact me so I could provide my credit card information again and they can re-run the transaction. Fair enough, mistakes happen, but this raised more questions than answers, specifically how Roman had gotten my phone number when only my name and the last 4 of my credit card were on the receipt. He said that a Des Plaines police officer happened to be in the restaurant, so he asked the officer to run my name and look up my information, and apparently the officer complied (which I feel is a whole different issue). Roman even mentioned that he knew the town I live in (nearby, but not Des Plaines). This all felt like a major privacy violation, and involving the police to look up someone 's personal information when they did nothing wrong seems pretty unethical. I said as much to Roman and he said ok I 'll just tell the server that we couldn 't get ahold of you and there 's nothing I can do . I told him I wasn 't trying to take money out of anyone 's pocket, just trying to explain that this is not how you should handle this situation. I gave him the CC info so he could re-run the transaction, he thanked me, and that was that. Overall, an incredibly strange situation that has left a bad taste in my mouth. Next time, it 's probably a better idea to just chalk the mistake up to poor training of staff and eat the $75 tab rather than leave a customer feeling like their privacy was violated. This was in our regular rotation of bars/restaurants to visit, and I don 't know that I 'll be going back after this."
