"As many other reviewers have mentioned, Gypsy 's Trattoria Italiana is a Berkeley spin! It was always one of the most affordable Italian restaurants throughout the Bay Area; Hell I'd even say in California. And given its not a chain restaurant (such as Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill), you're always a unique experience all at a very affordable price that 't break the bank. This place is located in the heart of Berkeley on Durant Ave with Telegraph Ave the next crossing. This special area is practically impossible to find parking places so it is best to come here on foot, bicycle, Uber/Lyft, AC Transit or BART. In addition, this is the food center where you can find as many unique international restaurants as Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Thai and much more. I also wanted to add that this place is just a few minutes walk from UC Berkeley, which makes this a huge fan for the college crowd. My recent experience was on Saturday 7/16/2022 at 18:30. As expected, there was a very long range of customer order as well as customers waiting for pickup (for to-go and DoorDash orders). One thing to consider is NOT a beautiful place. Do not expect waiter service, white tablecloths or a romantic experience. This is one of the No-Frills type of restaurants that focus more on budget friendly prices and huge portions. The ordering process is quite simple as you go to the register and to the order. I would recommend taking cash as credit/debit slightly higher prices on their food (like a gas station). After looking at the extensive menu, I finally settled with their Shrimp Alla Primavera court. This included Jumbo shrimps, garlic, assorted vegetables, and tomato sauce with angel hair pasta. In addition to the main food range, the comb dish also includes a home salad, garlic bread and soda. The price (as of July 2022) was an incredibly reasonable $13.74 tax. So basically for $15.00, you get a ton of food that I guarantee will fill you. My 1 ended with her chicken parmigiano dish. This was baked chicken breast with marinara sauce mozzarella cheese over a bed spaghetti. After payment, you will receive a ticket and call your number to pick up in the register. Although this place was like a zoo with customers, we got our food in about 10 minutes. I have to give credit where credit is due, the food here is quite decent for the super low prices. The only thing is that the sauce in my seafood plate was a little watered, but not biggie. Overall, the angel hair pasta was well boiled while they did not sneak on the shrimps. There was a lot of taste with many fresh vegetables embedded in the dish. The garlic bread was delicious, while the salad was also very crisp, cold and fresh. Since you 'll get a lot of Cal students here, this will help to throttle their food cravings, help them to study and through the school year."
