Prawn Shop

669 Union Street, Brooklyn, United States

Fish • Meat • Curry • Seafood

"This place is called Prawn Shop and while there are other seafood options, I think sticking to the prawns is the best bet. The meat in the rock crab I had was hard and tasteless; my cocktail was abysmal a Mexican Mule that was ultimately mostly ginger beer over too much ice that melted quickly into a watered down mess . The oysters were good. The east coast style prawn pot I got was amazing. Plump prawns, cooked to perfection with two hunks of bread which was hearty and soaked up the 'sauce ' perfectly. The service was questionable; everyone was very nice, to be sure, but my oysters were forgotten at first I did get the three most expensive ones comped as a result and my drink had to be sent back the second one, as described above, was still awful . It 's a small place and it wasn 't terribly crowded so the fact that I had TWO servers who couldn 't keep it together was especially disappointing. I also got the impression that one just felt utterly over worked; again, given the size of the space and the small amount of customers, this made me annoyed rather than sympathetic. Interestingly, tip is added in across the board to ensure employees can be paid a livable wage an idea I completely embrace, in theory. Given the quality of service, though, I was not pleased with being forced to pay a gratuity I didn 't feel was earned. I 'd rather there be no gratuity and just have the costs incorporated into food prices. It would have felt less like a hijacking."
