"my wife had the shaved apple salad with roasted salmon and she was in the sky. we worked in the city and were exhausted. long weekend at our feet. we arrived at 4 o'clock and they usually don't start their dinner service before 17 o'clock, but they made a take for us so I could order a steak. loved the atmosphere. she also loved the French coffee. "It betrays me not to leave such a great review. The service was A. The ambience was a solid B. The food was a C- for authenticity. La quenta (the invoice) was a F. The server said the fish taco plate was the special days. Well, no matter, it should be cheap, even if not the greatest. Our bill was 38.14 for a total of four fish sticks wrapped in four tiny tortilla shells and ONE Coke. Unfortunately there was no breakdown, only pay the 38.15 and go, thank you. Long sigh, have we won?"

"If you get off I-10 while traveling, you'll likely just dart into Applebee's or Cracker Barrel. Chain places. We all do when we are traveling. Please stop that and go here. Finally broke out of my breakfast routine here and ordered the Mesilla Queso burger. Lordy! What a thing...nice size patty, lots of green chile and queso. But the muffin/biscuit thing was a LOT of mushy bread. Ask for it without the top part of the bun. This was delish! Go with the fries though. The o-rings were kinda bland. We frequent this place every Saturday for breakfast. The chicken fried steak and eggs and the Rio Grand hash plate (get the green) is plenty of food with LOTS of flavor. The pancake is as big as a car wheel and a Mexican Coke with anything is always good. And seriously, the cook knows how to baste an egg. You know how many people say they do and don't. But the last time we popped in it was near lunch time. So I went with the burger. Glad I did. I'll branch out more with the menu now. We love this place. It's not much to look at but the service is friendly and on point. It can take forever to get your food out. Seriously...like forever sometimes. That's why 4 and not 5 stars. But if you have the time for a leisurely meal and some hand made grub...this is your spot."

"I came here for years until I moved to Phoenix in 1999, then Austin in 2006. Food is always excellent and consistent, which is very important. Waiting may be a little longer, but it's worth it. Some people complain, but this is a very popular place for lunch and dinner. I'd like to go back there if I have a chance! I work and live now in New England, over 2,000 miles away, I can't find this! Enjoy while you are in El Paso!"
