"Beautiful place, phenomenal food! Huge portions. We did feel very rushed by the waitress. We were still eating as the waitstaff asked to wrap up our food for take home and at the same time handed us a dessert menu. We had to ask them to please slow down and let us finish. Otherwise definitely a 5 star restaurant!!! Will ALWAYS return!"

We asked the hostess to move our table away from the door, but it didn't help much. The illuminated fireplace, while it was visually appealing, was not a heat. Server was timely and helpful."

"It's been a while since I had been there and A LOT has changed, I used to love this place. If you want to sit at the bar for a super hip bartender to make you a super hip drink, this is your place. If you are into knowing the restaurant made and smoke everything on the menu, this is your place but if you want a good meal, service and service you might want to go somewhere else. Everyone was nice, the host was nice, our server was nice but the service was lack the fundamentals of the dining experience. We waited to be sat and the place was empty. The wine we ordered (every time we ordered a glass) took forever. The table 2 tables down were so loud it was hard to have a conversation and when they left we saw it was the staff having some sort of meeting. The food was all made in house including the charcuterie, the problem was every piece of meat on the charcuterie plate tasted the same, you couldn't tell what was beef or pork, it just all tasted like over dried paper thin smoke. The Josie Baker bread (which is amazing) was burnt so bad on one side we ordered more and they took 10 minutes to bring one half of one slice, not 4 half slices like the order came with and the chef brought it out with a pair of tongs. The house pickled veggie plate was mushy and scattered. The bone marrow tasted like nothing which how do you do that to bone marrow... Broil with salt. I live in SF, I've bartended in SF, I love the Height but will not be going back to the Alembic I used to love a few years back. I usually write off one visit and go back for a second chance, sorry not this time."

"This was our second time at Donato because we wanted to give it a second shot. Our first experience was on Valentines day where they were having some issues due to it being a holiday and their system being down. That meant we ended up spending about 3 hours at Donato, mostly waiting and getting impatient for anything to come. This time around, we brought a friend to give it a second chance. It was a random Friday night with a reservation. Service was slow, the same as our first time around. It took around half an hour before they took our order. Took another hour for our food to come out, and we were handed a dessert menu before our last item was supposed to come. I say supposed to come because even though we ordered it, we were told that it was never put in and we wouldn 't be getting. I don 't understand why this place has such a high rating. The food is mediocre for how expensive it is, the service is slow, and it seems like the chefs are so backed up they can 't get food out at all in a timely manner. I really wanted to like this place considering it has such rave reviews on here, but it seems like the only people I see enjoying this spot are old white couples, so if you don 't look like you own multiple properties, maybe don 't come. This was our second and last time coming here."

"Have eaten here a number of times, always for the same thing-pastrami sandwich which is excellent. Other items not so good. Cole slaw needs something to spice it up-too bland. Potato salad just not to my liking-hard to say how it could be improved. Potato chips were inedible-they were very salty and very sweet. Every time we have been there, probably 6 times, the service has been excellent with very pleasant servers. For those who drink, there is a wide variety of drinks, with gin being their specialty."

I am convinced that it is all hot air because I visited the family here, just to discover that all the food was dirty. no vibration of aromen (e.g. from fresh ingredients, maybe?) and all under salt. while the prices were those of a high-end restaurant. I took a risk and disappointed me and my guests. would not return."

"*Update, per the response from the restaurant, I called and emailed with my phone number. Zero response. I guess them responding to a negative review is just smoking mirrors to make it seem like they are concerned. My husband and I go here often for drinks and dinner/dessert at the bar. Every year for our Anniversary we go for a special dinner and end the night with a night cap at the bar. Last night we went to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We had reservations and noted it was our anniversary. We were sat at the bar right next to the waiters area. We spent the night staring at a pile of dirty dishes and had people from the bar hanging over us. The service was ok, the food mediocre for what you pay. Spent $400 on a night that was supposed to be special but instead was like dinning at any other restaurant that would have cost less than half the price. After dinner my husband asked if I’d like a night cap at the bar. For the first time, I chose to go home."

"We stumbled across this restaurant/brewery while we were in the area for a concert and were so happy we stopped in. The service was wonderful and the food was fantastic. They had so much stuff on the menu that sounded good and it really took some discussion to narrow it down. We ordered more food than we could possibly eat because everything sounded good. We had appetizers, pizzas, dessert, craft beer and left with a bunch of leftovers and a growler of their Octoberfest beer. We will be back and I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in town."

"Food was excellent. Took a while to get drinks and then salads. We had only just started salads when entrees were delivered too quickly. Also took much too long to get boxes and the check although we had mentioned we would need boxes early in the meal to server. We will return and hope timing improves."

"Really disappointed in our first experience at the new location. Always had great experiences at the original place. 5 friends having dinner- just 5-not a table of 12 but it felt like a disconnect from the start. Hostesses not very welcoming or friendly. One friend had to ask for his tea 4-5 times. Bread and salads were good but small. One ordered a special to be told about 10 minutes later that they were out- this was at 5:30 pm and the special was octopus- how can a special be gone at 5:30? One asked for no onions on the salad or in the Stromboli and onions came with both. 4 meals were delivered and we were asked if we needed anything else? Yes/ the fifth’s meal. We were told that the kitchen made a mistake on the dish but that it should only be 3 minutes. Others needed to eat or risk everything being cold. The dish (from the oven dish) arrived lukewarm as the others were finished with their meals. Appreciated the manager comping some of the charges where there were issues. I think we will give another chance but if similar experience we will likely not return."

"come here for pizza and drinks. the pizza was some of the best we had in LIC, and the drinks were shockingly good. her Focaccia, who comes with your meal, is also really solid. the ambience is great, and it is definitely a jewel in LIC with how many seats there are! the octopus was also tasty tender and highlighted with fine aromas. I thought the ragu Pasta was okay (a bit too heavy), but not worth ordering how well everything else was."
