"Some people will say that the price of a piece of chocolate cake is expensive. I say to them. 'Have you ever made a chocolate cake from scratch? Coco is $7.00 for an 8-ounce container. Then you also need to include the cost of running a business. I own a business and just basic costs of an accountant for taxes, rent, electric, (Betty 's must have huge refrigerators to hold their wedding cakes and eggs, butter, cream etc. My monthly bills are close to $5,000. a month and I have no employees so there is no payroll or health insurance or paid vacations to worry about. So, I think that $6.95 is right on the mark for the cost of a piece of heaven. Now the quality of the bakery is top notch. They made my wedding cake and I might add that the cake was enough for 50 people. We had 25 at our reception. It 's a good thing we took the top tier and put it in a box because there was no cake left. People were having 2nd and 3rd helpings. I live next door and I make good use of the new deli counter that is open to the public with a countertop and chairs. Now you can get your slice and not have to buy an entire cake. I have lived next to Betty 's since they opened. If you are in Brooklyn and on Atlantic Ave, stop in and just take in the smells of fresh baked items and fresh hot coffee brewing on the stove."
