"Our waiter was great. He was super-attentive and apologetic for how little the kitchen staff care about their work. He tried. I hope he shared none of our tip with the kitchen staff. There were hardly any customers there, so being short-staffed with too many customers was not an issue. They just don't care about good food or good service. For the high prices at Axel's, the food totally sucks. My garden salad was fresh and good, but the mashed potatoes, asparagus, and coconut shrimp were terrible. The potatoes were wet not creamy, the asparagus was stringy and undercooked, and the coconut shrimp were tough and overcooked. What a disappointment. Whomever founded Axel's in Mendota years ago must either be rolling in his/her grave or deeply saddened by the demise of a once quality restaurant name. Do not spend money here."
