"After reading a lot of the negative reviews of this place, I’ve been avoiding it like the plague. So when the time came that I actually found myself at the Double T diner for breakfast, I have to admit I was downright scared. But I was also very hungry. I was skipping my go-to choice, First Watch, because there was a crowd waiting there, and I hate waiting in line, especially for breakfast. First Watch Laurel has become, in my opinion, a victim of its own success. In the words of the late Yogi Berra, nobody goes there anymore — It’s too crowded. So that’s how I found myself at a table at the double T diner: hungry, and nervous.Have you ever walked into a place where you can sense that the staff has read all the negative reviews they get? There’s a downtrodden, sort of “I’m sorry for serving you this ****” aura that is absolutely palpable, permeating the atmosphere in the Double T. On a warm summer morning when people were out and Laurel traffic was thick, half of the dining area was completely closed off, and there was an uncomfortable silence hanging in the air. The food was edible, but that’s about it. The avocado slices on my southwest scramble were fresh and green, and I appreciated that nice touch — they weren’t brown and nasty. But everything was bland, barely lukewarm and the potatoes were dry. It’s a diner for chrissake —serve me my potatoes piping hot with some butter or grease or something, anything on them. The salsa had that straight-out-of-the-can look and taste to it. Double T diner pretty much lived down to its reputation. I simply can’t believe the producers of Gordon Ramsay‘s kitchen nightmares or one of those other reality shows hasn’t found this place yet, so their star chef can start throwing pots and pans and cursing out the pathetic, lackluster staff, while he turns it into a cash register. The place just seems so perfect for that.I won’t be going back to Double T, no matter how hungry I am. I guess I’ll just have to go to First Watch and stand in line with a crowd, waiting for something delicious."

"Yes, dining in a hotel that bears the Trump brand is going to cost you money. But yes, the experience provides a more than substantial payoff. We stayed for a week in the Doral section of Miami, and try as we might to resist Champions for fear of budgetbusting, we could not overcome the temptation. The Doral Hotel is all gleaming marble with accents of gold, and we feared disdain because we were, indeed, tourists on a lark for lunch. Nonetheless, we were greeted like celebrities by staff who could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Champions is the ultimate in a sports bargrille all metal studded plush leather, with a mile long bar, many TVs, and a patio area looking out on one of the three impeccably groomed onsite golf courses. A very engaging server, Denise, attended to our dining needs, answering all of our questions regarding children's meals, negotiating several food allergies, etc. The menu is varied, with designer salads, burgers, sandwiches, and more substantial fare fish, beef, chicken that could easily serve as late lunchearly dinner. All six of our meals were expertly prepared and elegantly presented. Denise checked in on us several times, even though the restaurant was bustling and she was quite busy. We felt we had her attention throughout, in a very professional and unobtrusive manner. Was this the most expensive meal we had all week? Yes. Were the meals and the experience worth the price? Indeed"
