"Restaurant Week has begun! <br/ <br/ It started in 1992 when the Democratic Convention was held in New York City. In order to feed the delegates, restaurants introduced a 3-course prix fixe meal to showcase the city's superb cuisine. Now this is held twice a year with 380 restaurants participating and everyone looks forward to it. With lunch for $29 and dinner for $42, this is a steal. Wine, coffee, tax and gratuity is extra. I like this event a lot and have been going for over a decade.<br/ <br/ Yesterday Laura and I went for our RW lunch to Sazon, a Latin American restaurant located in TriBeCa. The dining area is large and was already filled with several people tucking into their lunches. Laura began her meal with Chivita, a goat cheese spread with olives, almonds and yucca chips. It looked grand on the plate and the goat cheese was mild and creamy. I chose the Summer Salad with grilled pineapple, feta cubes, cherry tomatoes, arugula with an orange dressing which was tangy. For main courses, Laura ordered the pernil which was roasted park with an accompaniment of pigeon peas rice and sweet plantains. The dish was so big that we both gaped. My flat iron steak was stringy and a little tough. It had caramelized onions on top and the menu listing of puréed carrots was missing. Instead a mound of mashed potatoes took its place. I presume the kitchen had run out of it and there was no time to make more. Tres leches cake and a creamy coconut flan were the dessert options. This cake which is a classic in South America is a sponge soaked with condensed milk, evaporated milk and heavy cream and is moist and finished with puffs of whipped cream. Both desserts were tasty."
