"I have visited this Safeway location three times a week in search of breakfast, lunch, and snacks for my day job. Unfortunately, most Deli employees do not make sandwiches at 7:00 am. You have to catch a worker coming out of the back because no one is in the front, and if you do find someone, they are usually busy on the phone. I have also noticed that the donuts are not placed in the case until after 7:30 am, which can be inconvenient for customers. The security at this location is minimal, and it seems like people could easily steal items. Personally, I often bring my laptop and work papers in a backpack, and I have never failed to be stopped by security upon exiting the store. The employees also closely watch customers at the self-checkout, which can be frustrating. One particular incident that upset me was when I purchased 17 gift cards valued at $100 each during the Christmas holiday. When I went to the 15 items or less line to check out, the cashier and another employee began speaking in Chinese and appeared to be discussing my purchase. They then informed me that there was a $5.95 fee for each gift card, which required me to use my debit card for the balance. The cashier meticulously checked each bill with a money Authenticator pen, which made the process extremely time-consuming. I felt frustrated and disrespected by the treatment I received during this transaction. Overall, my experiences at this Safeway location have left a lasting impression on me, and I am disappointed by the lack of convenience and customer service."

"I'm not for hyperboles, but I just had one of the most difficult experiences on Safeway in Union City. It was the entire experience that frustrated me and unwilling to return to any safeway location. The topics started in the Deli department. After leaving the Deli department, I asked to talk to a manager about what happened. The manager, much to my surprise and disappointment, said to me, I know what you describe. This employee repeats the same behavior. I'm not sure if he tried to be sensitive (but inconspicuous), but I thought of myself, How can this be a known behavior and no corrective measures be taken?! I'm not asking for the termination. If the manager had said that we are aware of this behavior and we work with this employee to improve his customer service, then great! I would have stayed happy. I am hopeful that, although I have abandoned purchasing at your location, you can take the loss of my company as an opportunity to prevent other customers from having similar experiences. I've been shopping at this place for years, but if this is how bad customer service gets address, I'm lucky to have other options for food. Just one episode. The above feedback was left with Safeway. I was told that a call is made with me to get more insight. Nothing. No message No message I can see that they monitor their Yelp reviews and leave answers, but the answers seem to be an attempt to mitigate overthrow of negative reviews, oriented to READERS of review, instead of trying to fix the issues of concern to the original poster of review."
